Which MPEG-4 program is the FASTEST for use with a dual processor system?

Adobe is known for making extremely effective multithreaded software so I would expect Premiere to be no different. In theory I assume it would handle DivX4 and Microsofts codecs quite well... haven't tried though.

I'm not totally sure because I haven't got a dual system myself (but a friend has two of them and he uses Premiere) but I think the encoding process can't use the multi-processor capabilities of Premiere, the codec only uses one processor. On the other hand, filters and stuff used in Premiere are probably using the other processor as well.
However, for encoding vob to divx, Premiere is not really useful (if that is what you want to do)

I think I wasn't clear...
I meant out of the mainstream free software (Xmpeg, Nandub, VIrtualDub etc), which would take advantage of my dually?

I haven't heard of SMP support in any of these programs and I don't think *that* was the primary objective for the authors to write their programs ;) Although the authors of these free programs are very skillfull it is quite a challange to write multithreaded software...
The following test of dual CPU systems might be of interest. DivX-encoding is one of the tests...

AFAIK you can use processors resonably well with frame serving with avisynth into vdub/nandub. This way decoding, chopping, resize and other filtering will use one processor and divx encoding will use the other. Easiest way to do this is to use GordianKnot. I seem to recall someone getting 70 frames per second on a dual P4 2000, can't remember which forum this was posted in.
