Hi I just posted up this thread because I have a few questions about the temporal smoother filter for avisynth. My first question is that whether it would be a good idea to use this filter when encoding a movie with multiple passes in CCE??? I have heard that it has produced great results in a one pass VBR with a low Q factor such as 5. So what are the results like in multipass VBR????

My Second question isn't really a question but more of a request. Could someone post up the name of the movie and what arguments they have put in the temporal smoother filter that has given them the best results. You could even put in a genre such as

"I used TemporalSmoother(3,5) for dark, low light movies."

Thanks heaps for any replys!!!!

Well, it is hard to give you good settings for a genre since the settings mostly depend on how noisy your source is.

So it would be the best to play around with the settings since any movie/source will need different settings.

I personally prefer SpatialSoften since TemporalSoften has a bug (it doesn't work for me with mpeg2source) and because TS will just work in still/low-motion areas where SpatialSoften does not really care if there is motion or not. But SpatiaSoften is f...... slow !

You could try a combination of Temporal- and SpatialSoften but make sure you do TemporalSoften before SpatialSoften. This should work good since SpatialSoften will clean the parts that TemporalSoften was not able to clean.

parametres for tempsmooth r 3, being the 1st the pixel radium,es.(1,3,5).

3,5 is very low and i think not effective,
use 1,5,8 for light filter,1,7,11 for medium, 1,10,16 like strong
and 2,12,20 like very strong for heavy "snow"(but with artifacts).

you cant use temp together with frame decimation inside asynth.

the tempsmooth of vdub has some option more.

Movmasty ,those values you gave don't work in avisynth for TemporalSmoother()
