The disk in question supports pan & scan mode BTW.

sure you can, just CROP the right and left.

You will pan [OR] SCAnned. BUT NOT BOTH.

define supports. Every disc supports that you set that mode in the player.. but it's another question entirely if the disc has pan&scan motion vectors embedded in the mpeg2 stream which would enable true pan&scan as they do for VHS tapes, but performed on the fly.

I wouldn't know of any mpeg2 decoder but software dvd player that could read these vectors and perform the operation so you have to do it manually anyways by cropping the appropriate parts of the screen away.

Thanks for that. Guess the answer is no then, what you are reffering to is what I mean, the pan and scan info is embedded into the mpeg 2 stream so it looks pretty good when in full screen. This would be a really sweet feature for DVD 2 avi to have.
