hi,
anyone ever had a problem with win386.swp file? i had the problem recently sometimes, where windows crashed because it creates a huge swap file, taking up all my C drive. it's about 2G for my case.
Anyone has an idea?

You should not have it dynamically set. You always want to make sure it's a fixed value. Example- Min and Max size for me is 1150MB. If you set it like this then the actual file will not grow dynamically and fragment your drive and provides a little better performance.
How much RAM do you have? Which OS are you using? It sounds like when you crash Windows is doing a full memory dump. I'm guessing at this point as I'd really need more details about your system setup before helping.

oh, i'm using win98 second version, 128M Ram. It only happens recently, never met such situation before.
so u mean i can setup this swap file swh? Yes, i think if i can set it up a min and max, windows will never run out of hard drive, where can i set this thing?
Thx a lot.

It's been along time since I've used a 98 machine so I hope this is right.
Right click the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties". Then select the "Performance" tab. Then click on the "Virtual Memory" button and set your min and max values to something like 256. This should be enough. RAM is really cheap...you should get another 128MB stick to be truthful;)

So if i set the min and max to about 256, does that mean later on windows will creat swap files at around 256M?
since u mentioned u usually set this at 1150M, how much ram u using? can i set at 1000M?
Thx

First off you need to read the forum rules. Crossposting is not accepted here. Thx for the heads up Koepi.
Secondly, my suggestion to you was to set your values to 256. Reboot after you change the settings. You do not need a swap file of 1GB. I use 1GB because I have 768MB of RAM and use memory dumps for debugging purposes, etc.
For more info...do a search with your favorite search engine for "windows tweaks".
