View Full Version : Gordian knot not inserting keyframes on Divx4 encode, please help!

I'm really kind of desperate on this. When I encode with Gordian Knot to Divx4.0, the movies don't have any keyframes in them. I am encoding at 4CD quality, with full AC3 using Divx4.12 and Gordian Knot .23
Can someone please tell me why Gordian knot (Or virtualdub, which is what is actually doing the encoding) isn't putting in any keyframes?
I'm desperate.

I may be wrong, but by making it fit on 4CD's wouldn't every frame be compressed with quantizer 2 already?
This way you won't see a difference with keyframes, because each frame is practically a keyframe.

The difference would be that I could seek with some stability (seeks tend to crash) within the movie.
Also, it's not so good to split movies without designated keyframes? I guess, however, that could be why there are no keyframes, since everything is so high quality. Maybe I should try making a small encode and see if that helps.

The unstability on your divx could come from the ac3 sound. Have you experience some other divx with ac3 on 2/3 cds?

If you are using a via mobo and are using divx 4.11, then updating to 4.12 will probably help you with the symptoms where seeking causes the computer to crash.
It helped me:p

I don't know if GKnot changes the keyframes setting or just leaves it as it was before, but maybe it helps if you set the DivX 4 codec to insert keyframes at least every ... frames.
Usually every 300 frames there will be a keyframe (DivX 4 default settings). I can't think of a reason why Gknot would change that setting?

I agree with Krak.... I have had bad luck
with ac3 sound (esp. two tracks) and particularly
when it comes to seeking. Using a good player
seems to help, but not solve the situation.
Have you tried to use different players?
