Hi all,
I was wondering is it possible to play svcd with 24 frames on standalone dvd player? Or it's a must to add additional frames to make it interlaced for tv playback/compatibility?
This is regarding NTSC format.

you can encode in 23.976 frames progressive but you have to add pulldown to the stream after the encode for it to change to 29.970 frames.
you can find pulldown in the download section of this site.
and you will get alot better quality to do 23.976 and do pulldown than encoding in 29.970 interlaced from the start.
what pulldown does is it adds duplicate frames and stuff like that so the the telecine source will be ntsc.
best regards

thanks man,
I was just wondering if it's a must to use pulldown and apply additional frames.
I have this question cause most holliwood movies show up as progressive-film type on vob2avi, not as interlaced.
Am I missing something or don't understand? I assumed those progressive dvd don't have additional frames. Right, wrong?

3:2 pulldown actually duplicates fields (half frames), what is better than whole frame, and it is what causes interlace.
And why vob2avi if you make SVCD ? You need DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc or CCE.
