When encoding my movies, I've never bothered using a noise filter when preparing my .avs. All my rips still look decent though, should I look into noise filtering anyway? What does it do?
Thanks,

Use noise filtering when your video has visible noise. Tip: turn your brightness on the monitor way up and look at areas with uniform color. If there's any graininess or anything like that there, then use noise filtering. If there's just a fine veil of noise always use tempsmoother(2,1) (light noise filtering). It helps makes the movie more compressible without much visible effect. The medium and heavy options are strictly for more obvious noise.
