View Full Version : Why is the luminance filter so evil?

I've searched for an answer, but all I can find is sage advice saying "don't use it". Why? The first few rips I made without DVD2AVI's luminance filter look great with plenty of details, but only in outdoor/bright scenes. If it's indoors, everybody's missing half their faces. So I played around with DVD2AVI's luminance filter and they come out looking great, on two different computers so far. BUT, I have not tried TV out yet, so will I be dissapointed? Is that why they say not to use the filter --because it will wreak havoc upon a TV? I guess I have just not seen a downside yet. Anybody care to 'enlighten' me?

I am not 100% sure but i think that the luminance filter doesn't pass in the d2s nor the resizing. So it's worthless..
