I was reading something in the guides and it says DVD's can have different resolutions. Is this true? Can I make a DVD with standard smaller resolutions that will play in a DVD player other than 720x480?
question 2:
Can I author a miniDVD,which I assume is a CD in DVD format, with the audio_ts, and the video_ts, and the ifo. Same standard stuff just on a CD that will play in a DVD player?

1. Yes you can use 1/2 D1 size which is 352x480 NTSC & 352x576 PAL.
2. MiniDVD's will not play in standalone players.

You are sure that even 720x480 mini-dvd's will not play in DVD players? Have you tried?

Actually mini-DVD's do work in some standalone players.
I play them regularily in my Apex AD700.

when mini dvds work over here i have found that also Xvcd (non-standard svcds) work always as well.
Seems to me that the player is actually interpreting it as a form of svcd
