that machine on ebay (see doom9 news link)boosts TWICE real time encoding!!!

but that machine is not all that, how is it getting such speed??

Probably because DivX5 should encode faster than 4.12, plus that system's got 2 CPUs.

It should be faster than 4.12 but I suspect it unfortunately will be some hype as usual. I could be wrong and Divx5.0 supports SMP. Yum...my dualie would love that:)

Well, there's a little bit of hype :-), but it's the real deal. The trick is to do your MPEG-2 decoding on one processor and your DivX video encoding on the other processor. That speeds things up quite a bit.

Oh, and it's optimized like crazy, too. :-)

@Bez,

Thanks for the headsup. How are you seperating these process over 2 CPUs? Is this a feature of the codec?

When you say it's heavily optimized, I'll assume your speaking about the PIV? Which means like 10% of the users out there will see that speed increase:(

Maybe XP and Tbird onwer should write to AMD and asking them to help Divx Network optimize the divx5 code for their processors like Intel did.

would be great

So... this mean this computer come with a special encoding app derived or created by DXN ? :o

Is this application available with the new version of the codec or with this computer ?

Ho my God ! :eek:
But what are you talking about dear BlackSun :confused:

I don't see that it is something special for dual system. If I can get 33 fps with single 1386 MHz Athlon...

@ppera2

Your getting 33FPS but the claim is 60FPS. So I'd call this pretty special. So on a dual system that doubles what your getting with a single CPU. AFAIK this has never been accomplished before so I'll believe it when I see it:)

Isn't a dual P4 2Gig already getting 60-70 with DivX4?

Maybe DivX5 is a little faster than DivX4, but it seems to me these figures are already possible.

I bet I could squeeze out 60fps on my dual PIII 850, this would be at crap quality settings though;)

Who cares about speed? =P
Wasn't DivX 5 supposed to be a lot better quality-wise?

GordianKnot will almost perfectly support SMP when encoding from DVD ... i get a 85 to 95% CPU usage on my SMP PIII 800 system ... dont forget there are 4 dlls involved :

divx.dll
vdub.dll
mpeg2dec.dll
avisynth.dll

so its easy for Win2k to distribute the work. As most of the iDCT, resizing and filtering is done with the 2nd CPU ( my guess ) i dont even care about the tempsmoother level for filtering ... it will simply result in a little more CPU usage and not decrease encoding speed at all :D ...

I read in this forum about dual Athlon system encoding speeds couple times. They mentioned double real time encoding speed.
And I can get even 100 fps with Mpeg1 VCD resolution material with Virtual Dub and DivX 4.12...

@Christian

I have basically the same setup as you and am using Gknot as you do. However, doing a 2ps encode for a 1CD rip, the most I ever see is around 27fps. Yes, both of my CPUs are pretty much maxed out as well.

I suppose the point is if I want around 60FPS then I need to spring for one of the new Asus A266 mobos and a couple of 1800XPs:) I'm drooling...
