View Full Version : Playing a ripped DVD from the hard drive ?

I have ripped "The Crow" using smartripper to my harddrive and am attempting to follow instructions for burning straight to a dvd using ifoedit etc.
Fortunately the original dvd is small enough to fit straight onto a dvd-r so I dont need to strip streams.
Should the ripped movie play directly from the hard drive immediately after ripping ? Power DVD 4 gives error 8903000 Unknown file format if I try and do this.
After using ifoedit to reconstruct the ifos and vobs following the DVD -> DVD 5 guide I still get the same error.
Any help appreciated

I think in file modus you must select the vob files in PowerDVD, not the ifo files (if that's what you've done)

Thanks for the reply. PowerDVD played the vobs ok but to pre-test burning a DVD-R one of the guides said to use PowerDVD 4 to open the ifo and check the movie could be played.
When ripped with SmartRipper PowerDVD wouldn't play from the ifo, however after ripping with DVDDecrypter it will now.
Nice :D
Now to see if it burns

Ok, the dvd played fine from the hard drive loading the ifo into powerdvd 4 and the burned dvd-rw played fine on the pc but when attempting to play it on the player (a pioneer dv545) it seems to loop around title 2 (copyright statement - ironically).
This was burned with a pioneer a03 on a pioneer dvd-rw.
Any ideas ??

I was about to say, you should be using dvd decrypter in ISO mode on discs that will fit on dvd-r without any mucking about.
I wish people would start to realise that dvd decrypter is a much better program than smartripper for EVERYTHING other than working in IFO mode - basically coz DVD Decrypter doesnt have IFO mode :)
If you use ANYTHING other than 'movie' mode on smartripper then you really are wasting your time. DVD Decrypter is easier, faster and more stable. I dont think anyone can argue with that.

I'm sure it was ripped ISO, doesn't it default to that ?
I'll rip it again and try burning again, but not before i get some shuteye.
Thanks for the reply.

No, it defaults to File mode. You press 'R' to get it into ISO Read mode. Either that, or do it via the 'mode' menu.

Cool, that's news for me as well - I always thought it wasn't possible to play the .ifo files in PowerDVD when the DVD was ripped on HD.
I never really cared however because I don't have a DVD writer yet...

So, did you get it to work on your set top player then? I'm having a near identical problem with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon....I ripped it and processed the streams in SmartRipper, and futzed with the ifo's so many times its unreal...in any case, I got it to the point where it plays PERFECTLY in PowerDVD, but loops in the menu mode when I play it on my Apex 500wm....I burned it as a udf/iso in Nero, simply because Gear kept giving some wierd error (cant place ts_ifo in 640 since its taken, putting in 650.) ~that make any sense? not to me...in any case, I burn it with Nero, it loops in the menu mode, BUT when I play the DVDrw itself in PowerDVD (not the raw files) it STILL plays perfect! Somebody please HELP ME! I spent 15 hours straight trying to get this to work, and it just isnt yet!

Ok, now I'm trying to burn as an ISO using DVDDecrypter.
Unfortunately it gets to 95% and then gives an out of disk space error even though theres still 3gig left. Whole image should be less than 4.5 gig.
The log seems to give a different error:
I 22:20:25 Found VOB File: VTS_01_4.VOB - LBA: 1573377 - KEY: C0 00 00 00 01
E 22:24:42 Failed to Extract Sectors!
E 22:24:42 Operation Failed! - Duration: 00:16:00
E 22:24:42 Average Read Rate: 4,390 KB/s (3.2x) - Maximum Read Rate: 6,016 KB/s (4.3x)
Any ideas ?
Using DVDDecrypter 3.0.0.12
:(
Next question is how do I burn the ISO when I successfully build it. Nero wants to burn it to a cd not a DVD !

Ah...another person not taking note of what it says in the log!
FAT / FAT32 doesnt support images > 4GB
You will need to format ur drives as NTFS for large file support - that means u will have to be running Win NT/2000/XP.
You should read the log...I didnt implement it for fun :)

Thanks for the quick reply. Now to sort out a drive.
