After finding out that divx4log doesnt do anything i found and tried morphix. This one is far less userfriendly, but it DOES work. Morphix only changes the complexity values in the log and nothing else. A strategy that turned out to be effective. The selected part behaves as predicted.

But there is a big drawback using this thing. The filesize prediction is completely gone. But i think its not all that dificult to regain the filesize predictability with morphix, or to change divx4log in a way that it works.

The strategy would be to calculate how much percentage of the total the complexity is highed up in the selected part(s) and lower the complexety values that same percentage in the rest of the movie, so that the added up total of all the complexety-values in the movie keeps the same.
Its just an idea and i have no idea if thats the approach that gives the filesize prediction back, but it seems logical and i would like to try.
But i cant write programs...

But the point in using DivX4Log is getting precise filesize prediction...
(Since the quality improvement is negligable).

Anyway, if you want filesize prediction, just try out XviD and see how it blows away DivX4. :)

quality improvement with divx4log is zero. maybe even slightly less...
Doom9 wrote some nice things about Xvid. i think i give it a try... Hmmm is the Xvid codec needed for playing Xvid avi's? i guess it is.. All those codecs :-( Maybe i wait for divx5. i guess that one is downwards compatible too.
