Yup I am having a problem with CCE's speed too. I am trying to encode a 3 hour movie inot 3 Cd's with 4 pass VBR and almost all default settings. I am using DVD2SVCD 1.06 build 4 and CCE2.50. I think By the time I complete it will be almost 60 Hours (NO KIDDIN.) I started yesterday and it said ~12 hours, but then after the completion of those 12 hours, it started again. those 12 hours were taken to create the avs file I think, and now its chuggin away creating the mpv file. The speed says 0.353 (Altho I am running it now on low priority as I have to do other work. But yesterday Night I set it on high priority and it took 12 hours to just create just the avs file ??? Please tell me if I am doing something wrong, I am a newbie at SVCD encoding and this is (will be) my fisrt rip...

Thx. Oh BTW heres my hardware :

P4 1.3Ghz
640MB Ram
60GB harddrive
17 GB free space(after ripping movie)

:confused:

I don't think anyone can tell you if anything is wrong until we know more about your process. If you are using safe mode in DVD2SVCD, or if you have both IVTC and Temporal Smoother filters running, then a speed of 0.353 on a 1.3 GHz P4 is in about the right ballpark. And it is normal for CCE to do a preliminary pass (to create a .vaf file) before it starts the real multi-pass encoding.

If you are running normal (AviSynth mgep2dec mode) without either the IVTC or Temporal Smoother filters, then something definately sounds wrong. In that case, you should be getting CCE speeds close to or better than real-time (per pass).

Can U tell me how I can check whether I am suign these extra things that u said. like IVTC and Safe Mode? Sorry i am a newbie and i just followed the doom9 guide. Also, what speed is realtime?

Thx

Ok I just checked, I have 'Temporal Smoother' on, but no IVTC (still 23 hours to go. 31 hours completed) Im not using Safe Mode(VPAFI). Do you mean I am fine then. Does that mean I should take off Temporal Smoothers necxt time???

Thx

What you should of done is post in the right forum Which would of been "dvd2svcd/newbie". The second thing you can do is post your dvd2svcd log file so we can see everything you are doing..also post your avisynth script.

Yes you can turn off temporal smoother, that should give you an extra 30-40% for increased time..also try doing a 3 pass vbr and see if you like the quality I go between 3 and 4 pass depending on the movie.

Ok I started the whole thing all over again. This time I DONT have Temporal Smoother on. I DONT have Safe Mode on. I am using Simple Resize. I DONT have IVTC on, my Force film is turned on to Automatic. I am doing the vaf file pass now, BUT STILL MY SPEED IS ONLY : 0.427??? Can Anyone tell me why? I heard people say that it takes about 5-6 hours for the whole process generally, but here it is taking too long. BTW I am using already ripped VOB files (Which I ripped using SmartRipper) as I dont have the DVD with me right now. Can tha be a reason. I am confused.. Can Anyone help. Aha! I think i know da problem. The log file says
"IVTC will beformed and will slow down entire process"
Does that mean it is performing IVTC? Can that happen even though I didnt select it. I selected automatic for Force Film. Can someone please confirm my doubts?

Thx

it is using the decomb plugin, which can slow down the process almost the same way of IVTC plugin does. There are 4 things that you should do:

1) post questions about DVD2SVCD in the right place;
2) download the most new version;
3) if you want, for any reason, to stick with version 1.0.6, you will need to edit the following line in the avs file:

telecide()

instead of

telecide

this will increase the speed of encoding.
4)use 3 pass instead of 4 pass.
