Recently I bought a Pioneer DVR-A03. To my surprise the DVD-R's that I made play in my new Apex 7701, but not on the Apex 660, Denon 2800, Apex 1500,and Phillips 940 ( It said NO DISK).
I read in "Sound & Vision Mag" that DVD-R have a 85% compatibility in stand along players. What could be the problem ? Authoring method or cheap media used ($2.95 ea). To burn DVD-R I used PrimoDVD because Nero doesn't work well with DVD-R's.
Any Ideas?

What software are you using to burn? I have an Apex 660 and have found that any DVD-R I try will work --> as long as I don't burn it with Nero. Even though it's the same titles from the same harddrive. I don't know why.
BTW: They also have never failed to work on an Apex 1500 and Sony unit.

I think your main problem maybe the media that you used. There's alot of people complaining about the $2.95 media at cdrecordable.com not being able to burn at 2x and not playing in many standalones. Try taking one of the already burned DVD-Rs and copy it to your HD, then get a Pioneer or Apple media and burn it back to see if it plays in the other players.

In the ifo edit forum another guy startet a compatibility thread perhaps can everybody post his experience which medias are running in which players, i think that would be a great thing.

I bought the burner in ESBuy.com, http://www.esbuy.com/index.html . The burner came with a generic gold DVD-R that also has good compatibility !!! The price is $3.99 ea.
