Hi all,

I try to rip a dvd which has more than one track on it.

I read the Q&A and found Q41

Q41: HOWTO combine/encode 2 disc DVD set as one movie.
A:1. Get SmartRipper from Doom9.org
2. Rip disc one into a temp1 directory.
3. Rip disc 2 into temp2 directory
4. Find the highest number VOB file in temp1 (ex.. VTS_01_6.VOB)
5. Rename all VOB files in temp2 1 number higher then highest in temp1 (7,8,9, etc...)Making sure the files are the same except for the last number.
6. Copy all VOB's from temp2 into temp1.
7. erase temp2.
8. Edit all non VOB files that can be with a text editor and add all newly named VOB files just like the ones already listed. IFO file cannot be edited with a text editor and doesn't need to be modified.
9. Start DVD2SVCD and make sure DVD ripping is checked.
10. Select IFO file from temp1
11. Make sure output directory is NOT temp1
12. Procede as normal remembering time listed is NOT correct, but this will not make a difference to DVD2SVCD.
13. After DVD2SVCD has finished ripping you may delete temp1 directory.

Is this the only way to bring the different tracks back on one stream?
Is there an easyer way to bring the tracks together?

I'm using smartripper to rip the tracks. Is there a way to rip the complete dvdv at once? Or is that not enough?

This is my first time trying to rip a dvd with more than one track - any hints are welcome.

Hi all,

so now I tried the rules from Q41.

At the beginning Ripping started and has got the complete set of vob's (for preparing).

But then only ripping the last vob's...hmmmm.

I have an idea in my mind - the longest track was the last one - is that the reason why ripping started with the last vob's?

I'll go for another try with changing the track to the first one.

But again...any hints are welcome.

I wonder wether nobody else has a "problem" with that.

Kind regards

I don't understand what you mean by tracks. Do you mean different videos like there are 4 one hour episodes on a disc?

This method is for people that have a movie on 2 discs or the movie is half on each side of a double sided DVD.

If you are not sure what you have ripped you can play the ripped VOB files in WinDVD or DVD2AVI to check them. I suggest this even if you think you got the right one just so you are not wasting a day just to find out you got the wrong files.

The reason the SmartRipper and others skip some VOB files is that they don't contain what you have asked it to rip. There may be a making of video, trailers or whatever else in the earlier numbered files.

Hi markrb,

ok sorry - my querstion was not so clear.

Yes it there are 6 different videos on that dvd.
When I try to rip them with smartrip I can see this 6
videos in different tracks (every track has one
chapter) and it is possible to rip them.

So after doing that I have 6 videos on my harddrive.

And now my question - how can I concat these videos
again to one video?

Thanks for your help

I don't know of any easier way to rip all the episodes or combining them. You might be able to use SmartRippers file mode, but you would probably end up with things you didn't intend on getting.

Did you actually try doing it the way it is written or did you just figure it wouldn't work right? The info in the IFO file is only really used for finding the right audio stream and setting the aspect ratio, not for the length of the video. So even though it says that the video is only 30 minutes(an example)long that makes no difference if the VOB file are named right.

If the episodes are 40 minutes to an hour each or so you may want to do them 1 at a time anyway. This way you could get an entire episode on one cd without having to change cd's in the middle of an episode.

Hi Mark,

thanks for your input.

So now I think I can ask the right questions.

On that DVD there are several movies all about 15 min.
(Each with an own ifo - file)

The results of each ripping and going through the dvd2svcd
are standalone cue-files adn of course bb_mux...
Because these movies are all so short the quality is realy high :)

Is there a way to combine and / or concat these movies
to one movie?

I really don't want to have 6 CD's for the movies....

Perhaps I should post this question again with the right subject....

Kind regards

Hi scotty,

I think the only way is to do this by following Q41's instructions. But seems you made a mistake somewhere - make sure you only have one *.ifo file (the one from the first vobs for example) in the directory with all the vobs! - Then try again by selecting this *.ifo in "Conversion" tab and make sure you are using internal routines for the re-ripping to another directory.

Hope that helps,
Gerti

Hi gerti,

I tried it....but the result is not positiv.

I tried to do it step by step.

The result is in the logfile of dvd2svcd:

Within the preparing of the vob's I see all copied vob's (about 11)

But then the ripping starts with vob10 and end up with vob11

What I see is that every movie an that DVD has it own *.ifo file

I'll try it this evening again, perhaps I find the mistake.
In the moment my compi is working on another movie.

Kind regards

Try ignoring the section about piping/re-ripping with the internal routines and see what happens. Just do everything like you did, except uncheck the ripping box and see what happens.

When I get some time and I can find a DVD like you have I will try to write a new Q + A question on this. I need to update that question at some time because now it is just as easy to rip with the internal routines and do it almost the same way, but I need to come up with a procedure for that.

Hi Mark,

thanks a lot for your help.

I'll go on with my tests.

But having a procedure will be very nice.

Mark, the only thing I can say is - please go on with it.

;)

Have a good start in the next week
