Do you really think the new 2.52 is better?

Last night I did a test on the new version, 2pass with average at 2200
Max at 2540 min at 300,dc 10 bits,normal speed.SVCD
Really I can't say that it was better than the one I did with an older version(i think v12a) the same film.
The only difference is the speed which is a bit faster and the picture which is very soft.

I have used TMPG encoder since v11 and I just don't think the new one
is as good as early ones.
People are saying that it is equal to CCe.
What do you think?:(

I dont think its as good as cce yet, its still slower and the quality for svcd's is still lacking. I did some tests with cce and tmpgenc and so far i'm not impressed with tmpgenc results. I'm not to concerned with the speeds of it all its the Quality i'm really interested in.

I'm still testing tho when i'm done with my tests i'm sure i'll post them some where in this forum.

TMPGEnc 2.52 has been causing a lot of trouble for me. Sometimes it produces streams that have glitches in them - like a storm of blocks that disappears after a few frames - sometimes severe enough that VCDImager will only process part of the stream. I downgraded to 2.02 and everything appears to be fine now.

The bad thing with the new tmpgenc versions, is that they release fast! No time for true tests.....

TMPGenc 2.51 plus is a very good and stable
TMPGenc 2.52 plus sucks... It produces less blocks IMO, but also adss a lot of distortion, digital noise.... It totaly useless!!!! Like 2.50. I hate that version, made me waste a lot of my encodings....
TMPGenc 2.53plus is a bug fix of 2.52, also adds some new (useless..) characteristics. It produces quality like 2.51, but slighty faster and it is better with 2 Pass VBR on low bitrates. Don't use DC beyond 9 for svcd.... Also, there are less blockness, like 2.52, without the noise...

Looks like that one version is buggy and the next one is a bug fix of the previus. Isn't it exciting; :D

So, try with 2.53 plus and the new 2 pass vbr fuction...

But I wasn't talking about different encoder characteristics, 2.52 was generating CORRUPT streams for me. (making VCDs)

SatStorm, I wonder which version we should reccommend for using with DVD2SVCD? Especially if it is CQ mode. Perhaps the earlier non commercial versions? What would you suggest?
