Hi, I have encoded a clip with both TMPGenc 2.52 and CCE SP 2.64, both at 352x240 29.97fps at 1152bps. The resulting TMPGenc file is 1149bps while CCE's is 1151bps. If I watch them using WMP they look about the same, no noticeable differences but when I open them up using Vdub, the CCE's one had more grain in the frames and looked slightly worse.

I thought CCE was supposed to have better quality? Of course, the encoding time is faster than TMPGenc. Am I using the right setting with CCE? I'm using a cracked version, so I can't select VCD setting directly, I can only set the bitrate to CBR 1152bps MPEG-1.

Yeah it's been said that Tmpgenc is actually better when it comes to Vcd format...while cce is better for Svcd's so im not suprised you have noticed this.

I see... The speed difference is also much less than what I read in a guide. Guess that must have been talking about MPEG-2 SVCD encoding.

Nothing beats TMPGEnc for VCD -- CCE's MPEG-1 encoder is of marginal quality. But for MPEG-2, CCE is by far the better encoder.
