On the Mission Impossible 1 DVD both Standard & Widescreen are available. When I have encountered this option B4, there have been separate vob files for each format, so selecting widescreen was no problem. On this disk, there are 9 vob files (0-8). When I go into the conversion tab, dvd2svcd will select 4:3, implying standard format. I am going to try to convert as is and will report my results soon therafter. I know this problem will be rare since most disks have a single format (or if 2, on separate sides). Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the DAR on a DVD defined in the ifo file? Doesn't that mean that one vob set can only have one DAR?

Whenever I have encountered a disc that has both formats on it there have always been two IFO files that are very close in size to each other. In the past if I select the one that is slightly larger in size it has always turned out to be the 16:9 one.
I would suggest when selecting the IFO from within DVD2SVCD look closely and select the largest IFO file. Start the rip as normal, but as soon as it starts hit the X to close DVD2SVCD. This will finish the rip and then close the program. Then simply load the VOB files into WinDVD, PowerDVD 4 or DVD2AVI to check the aspect ratio. If it is correct uncheck ripping in DVD2SVCD and select the IFO file that you ripped on the HD and continue as normal. If not then erase those files and select the next smaller IFO file until you find the right one.

Mark, this is where the DVD plugin for DVD2AVI is handy so that you can open the vobs directly from the disk BEFORE ripping.

I must be loosing it. I know the plug-in exhists, but I have never found it. At same time I haven't looked for it either. I haven't done an encode for some time for the same reason I am not here as much now. I can't wait to get back to normal.

I am a newbie, but I know how to fix this problem!!!
I just did Mission Impossible yesterday! What you have to do is pull down the movie length scroll, and choose a different track under "track length." For widescreen, choose the one that is 5 seconds shorter, 1:50:02 I believe, as opposed to the default 1:50:07 (fullscreen).

Thanks big-time, Magubbi! You wouldn't believe the round-about and through my own posterior solutions I was finding from a Google search!
