Is this possible to burn 15-min miniDVD compatible with stand-alone players? All I want to do is capture short video clip from my DV camcorder & burn it to CD-RW and pass along my friends.
I can create VCD but I’m not too happy with the quality, yet SVCD is not compatible with everyone stand-alone DVD and DVD-R is too expensive for this.
Thanks.
P.S. The one I created played fine on PC but not on stand-alone. My
Daewoo 5700 wouldn't load this CD-R disc at all.
And.....has anybody seen this site? Is this possible?

Hi Andy...
Many Standalone DVD players are not mini-DVD compatable, but some are. I suggest you check out vcdhelper.com and check out the listing of DVD players there. You can then see if you friends players support mini-DVD.

mini-dvd compatable stand alones are even LESS COMMON than svcd complatble ones. So this idea is just pointless. Go with regular VCD and make it a quality one or crank the bitrate on a killer svcd with like 6 or 7 pass cce encode to max the quality

from everything i've read ... after 4 passes cce cant do any better ... so 6 or 7 passes is just a waste of time.

I have a Afreey LD2060, this can read miniDVD once you replace the DVD drive with a 6X or 8X DVD-ROM. Could use faster speed, but its louder and you can save money on an older one.
But the only reason I got the Afreey was to experiment with authoring DVDs, since a miniDVD is really not more useful than that considering it can only store 20 - 30 minutes max.
Now with DVD recorders so cheap, its not worth buying a miniDVD. Use that money to but a DVD-R drive for $350 to $400.
I wish I waited since I paid $160 for the Afreey and then $80 for the 8X DVD-ROM drive. But as a benefit I still have it to record Disney DVDs to VHS for the kids (since it can suppress macro) and its region free, but I don't really use that much.
If interested might sell it for $200 shipped. And I can take PayPal.
