I have some questions, what operating system are you running when you get cce freezes?
I ask this because I want to know if anyone is running cce on a windows NT 4 os? and if they have any problems?
I ask this because I found out that many authoring software dont work in windows 2000 or windows XP? I tried spruce maestro and it crashed my os hd, and many options didnt work, but when I set the compatibility option to windows nt 4 sp 5 in windows XP everything works like a charm, so maybe this cce problem is in the same nature, and I know there is a way to do the same to emulate windows nt in windows 2000 too. So this is maybe why it crashes on so many ppls computers?
this was just a thought and feel free to comment please.
Best Regards

I don't know if it will make any difference, but it is good creative thinking. Maybe somebody can try this that is having a problem and report back. At this stage any new thought is good!
Guys, I am going bald fast so somebody figure it out fast or I will be a damn cue ball! :)

What made me think of this is as I stated about maestro, I could start it without a error message but when I choose make a disc or if it says burn a disc it just rebooted my computer.
and when I choose compile it started normally but rebooted after somethings done and I could not boot up my computer anymore. and spruceup just rebooted as just tried to start it, but when I set the option in compatibility to win nt 4 sp 5 both programs worked like a charm, I burned my first maestro compiled dvd yesterday so I thought this cce 2.5 that we are using is very old and that maybe the problem.
but as I never had any problems with cce I cant test my theory out, and actually I was waiting too see if you (DDOG) respoded to my msg.
I almost knew that you would be the first to reply :)

Actually I don't think it is a compatibility issue like what you ran into. It seems to evolve around an intolerance on CCE's part of the slightest memory or calculation fumble. In other words, CCE has 0 tolerance for the slightest miscalc or data transfer fumble. Compounding this is the additional large memory usage of mpeg2dec and the fact that CCE stresses a machine to the max.
This is why I butchered and hocked up the stress test that uses nothing but CCE and AVIsynth to isolate those problems just caused between the machine and CCE.
I believe the difficulty in IDing the problem is the fact that it is, or can be, a COMPOSITE of a half dozen problems that individually or worse, interactively, cause the problem. Mathmatically that would put the possible "crash variants" up to a hundred or so I would guess.
The only way we are going to figure this out is via linear regression testing where each element is traced and then additional elements are added to the basic until the problem rears its head. The difficulty here is the participants typically lose their fortitude in the middle of a series of tests (which could take a hundred hours) and it has to be started ALL over AFTER you find another somebody that will help.
Additionally, those of us most qualified to swat this bastard bug NEVER have a problem on our own machines..........Growl!!!. As funny as it sounds, I wish my machine or DVD2SVCDs machine or one of the many heavily experienced encoders in this forum would start having these problems. If it did I like to think we could trace it. Most frustrating.
Anyway, D2S has now added TMPG support as well as VFAPI support. Between the three methods a person should be able to get an encode done.

What makes me even think that this might be a solution is that the big diffrence in windows 2000 and nt 4 was the memory management if I remember right plus real directx support and dont forget the new gui :)
I actually dont think this will help but anyway, would be nice if someone actually having those problems could try it out anyway.
and if it help we have to right a fan mail to mr youn. because that was what I was listening to when the idé came up.
and if dont work blame it on mr young too :)
