hi everyone there, this is my first Thread, i'm almost new converting DVDs to SVCDs, but i¡ve learned very fast.
in fact now i know everythig about ripping, but i want to know this:

i have final fantasy dvd, i want to convert it to 2 svcds.
but i also want 2 tracks of audio, the english & spanish.
the thing is that i know that 224 bps is right, but 2 audio tracks with 224 bps is too much, suming up, 448 bps is a lot.
so i was wondering how the audio will sound with 2 tracks of audio of 192 bps each one suming 384 bps.
is it right???
;)

recommendations???

Everything is in the specs & the guides, but...

I can tell you what I do; first, if you plan to use only 2 CDs, your whole bitrate will be low; you must select the highest quality (-> slower) settings in your encoder. So if you use 2 audio streams, you will compromise video quality even further; I usually put 2 audio streams also, but I put lower audio bitrate (that means also lower audio quality!) to enhance a little bit video quality.

I've found that 128K in audio gives usually good results (if the sound is "noisy", as explosions, music with i.e. electric guitars, etc., you can have some problems with too low quality), and sometimes I go even lower, to 112, but that is a little desperate solution (if the source is full frame -no ws-, and noisy, you need all the bitrate you can get)

One important point: if you want to follow the SVCD specs, you CANNOT use 2 224K streams! maximum audio bitrate (comprising ALL streams) is 384; that means 224+160, for example... or 192+192, but no more.

I did once 128+64, but the audio quality of the second stream was really bad :-(

You can choose to go out of spec and use 48KHz sound (to not to downsample if your source is DVD, that introduces sometimes annoying artifacts in sound that add to the low bitrate), or go to bitrates higher than the spec allows, but since your SVCDs will be non-compliant you can run into trouble with certain players... Simply search, compare, and if you find something better, buy it ;-)
