firmware 1.55

just got it today, and it rejects ever CD I put in for write, including the blank DVD it comes with...

it *did* manage to write a little data in roxio 5, but it failed to complete. Some errors messages are ones like "ASPI error"

If I use the PrimoDVD software, the disks check out OK, but after a few minutes, the program then says that the disks are bad...

I have tried 5 different types of media, and again, the issue DOES happen with the sample disk they sent (pioneer)

please help!!

system is winXP pro
Abit KR7A-RAID
A03 is master on secondary IDE
cable is a ultra ATA 66 (the blue tipped one)

Start by removing ALL burning capble programs from your computer and clean it down from all the ASPI drivers that are on it.
Probably a recomended step will also be registry cleanup if you know hiw.

Then select the only Burning program that you like the most and install it only.
Personally I recommend Nero.

mmmm, I'll give that a try...

however, I found this on the pioneer site:

Q15: What do I do if I get an error that includes the statment, command:2A sense 04 ASC: 08 ASCQ:01?
A15: The error code refers to a setup issue with the DMA. More often than not, disabling the DMA
solves the problem. However, there are situations that require DMA to be enabled. For
more information, please read Product Information Bulletin (PIB) #222501 on this website.
Return to DVR-A03

of course, the pdf link doesn't work, but the machine was setting the drive as DMA. I am testing it now @ PIO4, and so far, so good!!!

They also say you should use the 40pin ribbon , I have the 60pin, but I beleive that is backwards operatable....

anyways, as I type this, the burn is getting along fine, thanks for your help!!

I am using a 80 ribaon on a UDMA 100 and working fine for me.
But it might be a DMA problem if Pioneer say so.....

i had same problems,

get firmware 1.68
place a03 on master (not slave)
in windows deactivate DMA, get back to PIO4
get latest aspi layer (4.70) , not forceaspi !

it solved problems for me.

i use recordnow max to burn (with latest px engine update).

well, after 4 coasters, I am still in the same trouble...

upgraded to latest fimware, 1.68
set DMA to PIO4
set BIOS Ultra DMA selection to "disable"
loaded ASPI to 4.7
made sure the thing is master

same error, and it occures only a few secs into the burn. If I test and burn, the test goes fine, it's the actual burn that is giving the trouble...

any ideas?? I am getting the latest 4-1 drivers as we speak....

I'm not familier with your Abit board (know of it but not the specifics) How many IDE channels do you have? I have the BX133 and I have 2 ATA-33 IDE slots and 2 ATA-100s. Mine didn't work for sh*t when it was connected to one of the 33s but works like a champ on the ATA-100.

but putting an optical on a HPT IDE isn't th hottest idea...

I actually just got a burn done, seems fine, but during "verify" in primo, I got the error....

says there is a bad sector, command sense 28...

I really am not in the mood to keep wasting $3.50 for each "test" disk!!

OK, the disk I made will only play in ATI MMC, won't play in zoom player, or anything else, locks up my PC to all hell...

this is pissing me off BAD...

what os are using? w9x? 2k? xp?

w2k does it just fine to me.

i use pioneer or apple media.

have u tried burning at 1x?

maybe you should reinstall a clean windows? ... (i know it does not sound nice :( )

install only one burning software.
re instalkl aspi 4.70 after installing burning software.
still make sure the ide port for your pioneer if set to PIO4.

i use forceaspi with drivers 4.61 , windows xp, gear v2 (dvd-book=v2;udf-iso=1,02),imagetool, udma-cable 33, drive master at ide port 2,udma enabled, firmware 1.68,apple media, and it works fine for me.
I donīt know why everybody here says that I should use PIO?!?!, if I burn a DVD in PIO Iīve got a process-idle-time from 80% on an 1800 athlon ?!?

so I use udma, burn 1x for best results, play during that diablo2 and download something trial that I found in the i-net... nice living ... (probably this works only because of my new raid that I only bought for ripping issues, donīt know ?!)

and a tip: buy first off all a dvd-rw !,
hardware problem:put ONLY ! your vga-card in, go to bios, change all to defaults, only connect your burner and than make a clean install!)

hope the settings above will help you to manage your problem

ps:never use nero, never use winoncd, try to use gear v6!, vob with newest update from dez. or RecordNow MAX, Version 3.01 (not the newest, they are only for HP-writers, what a §$%§ -sh§$%) HP lol

Ill give your settings a shot, it's about time to do a fresh install anyways!!!

the reason about the PIO mode is that is what their engineers say. I just got off the phone with them, and they say at MOST (and if I am lucky!!) DMA mode 2 will work, at the MOST.

anyways, I am facing another problem....

the DVD that I *did* manage to get burned only plays in my creative DVD player with ATI MMC ver. 7.1. I just tried it in a pioneer slot load DVD player, and it plays VERY VERY jerky, umwatchable....

what the H would cause that!!

one question...

what is:

apple media
gear v.2

mcp

1.)apple media=from the apple-store=www.apple.c*m
very good discs for burning

2.)gear pro dvd v6 ->under properties i usually select dvd-book v2 (there are other parameters too but that works for me and in another menu there is an item where you MUST change the udf-file to v1.02 if you are going to burn an image that was previously created with the mega-imagetool for standalone player from CouJo (you can download it from doomīs site)
;)

the reason why i set my pioneer a03 to pio4 is that it is seen as a pio4 device anyway by BIOS.

when i set it to dma i will always get error msg while burning : Error -10 at Sector 162368 - Command:2A Sense:04 ASC:08 ASCQ:01.

i use recordnowmax 3.01 with latest px engine update.

burning goes fine.

same like me: in the bios recognized as pio4, but winxp reports as multiword-dma-modus2
burning with the same program and same engine update->no problem

I hade to enable the DMA for A03 otherwise I couldn't burn anything. With DMA enabled I can burn directly from any authoring software or CD/DVD-burning software.

All the authoring softwares with burning support install some kind of Aspi layering under different name. It can result in a conflict.

I get that exact same message, even with everything set to PIO4!!!

Error -10 at Sector 162368 - Command:2A Sense:04 ASC:08 ASCQ:01

sounds to me that I have to do a fresh install of XP, not going to be fun....

i would not recommend xp, at least not until microsoft released a 1st servicepack (on the way).
xp is not stable yet.

i use w2k sp2 : stable as a rock (my computer runs 24/24h for weeks).
