Hi,

I have a 640x272 divx, which is read perfectly on PC. I'd like to have it played on my tv-set (which is not a 16/9, to baaad) via the tv-output connector of my nvidia tnt2 graphic card.

My problem is that the movie seems to be a little bit too horizontally squeezed, and the black bars above and under are too large. I'm using MicroDVD because i need the subtitles... Can you help me so i can have a "normal" image of the movie ?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

You should try changing the resolution you are sending to the tv from your video graphics card.

Go to desktop, right click and hit "settings" tab

Select advanced, then "Display"

You should be able to configure the resolution of your signal here. Most tv-out cards you can set which output is the primary (tv or monitor). Select tv and put a smaller resolution, such as 800x600.

It should fit now on your tv and play in normal full-screen mode from your software player.

There is nothing wrong, the aspect ratio is just for widescreen. There are a couple of aspet ratios that are used, newer titles use a wider aspect 640x272 (common divx resolution), let just say the vertical is 1/3 the Horz., thus about 2/3 of screen will be the bars of a regular tv. Some movies (usually older ones) have a smaller width in the aspect ratio thus a common divx resolution of 640x352 and smaller black bar (like what is being used by tv shows recently ie Enterprise, Angel etc...). Basically it all comes down to the aspect ratio. I do not have the exact ratios but I do know there are 2 basic 16:9 sizes and you just have a wider movie and thus the bars are bigger. This is probably a bad explenation but I have encoded a number of movies at both 640x272 and 640x352 so it just depends on the aspect ratio of the movie.

Just use Radlight 3 http://radlight.net it supports easy movie resizing and panscaning by jsut using the numpad y0u can adjust the size to perfectly fit the tv :)
