Im attempting to use gknot for my first time. I have already ripped the dvd, and also ran the dvd2avi program. I guss I don't really understand where Nandub fits in. Is there an instrution guide out there?

Side note: I gotta give props to the people who donate their time and insight to help other people out like this. You guess are top notch.

Hi-Welcome mille465-

Yep-you've come to the right place. Yes-Nandub reads the .avs file. Doom9 has very good guides for both Nandub and GKnot's use as a front end for Nandub. In addition you might want to check out Koepi's guide. You can find the link for that at the bottom of any of his posts in the GKnot forum. Good Luck.

Edit: Sorry-Koepi's the mod at Nandub-Advanced Topics

Thank you for assisting, manono. After reading your responce, I went back to my Gknot tabs and attempted to run nandub agian. When I selected the 'open' button, nandub defaulted to choose a file with extention (*.stats). Since I didn't have any files with that extention, I switched it to All files (*.*) in order to selecet my .avs file. After selecting it, nandub gave a "cannot open file" message. I went ahead and saved and encoded it anyway. Although it took 6 + hours to encode, it only left a 16 Meg avi file in my folder upon completetion. The file was unreadable by my updated windows media player.

Am I makeing some common newbie misakes?
Also, as you suggested manono, I looked for the Doom9 nandub guide, but without luck. Any suggestions?

Side note: My brother used to work at the Bubba Gump in Honolulu.
Have you ever been there? Probably not if you live in
Hawaii, he said it is a tourist trap.

Thanks for your help.

Hey-Yeah-Lots of Newbie mistakes. To find the guides go here (http://www.doom9.org/) , and then The Guides-DivX guides-DivX3.x (or DivX4 or XVid)-Gordian Knot (or SBC Encoding). Read them-read them several times-memorize them.

You originally asked if Nandub can open the .avs, and it does (try it-load Nandub and open it). You create it in GKnot, and GKnot uses it to encode, but you can't open it within GKnot. What you open in GKnot is the .d2v (lower left corner)to create the .avs, or the stats file after the first pass.

I'm in Kona on the Big Island, as far from Honolulu as I can get (can't stand the place). There's a Bubba Gump's here, though.

Anyway-come back after reading the guides if you have more questions.

What can I say? Manono has more patience than I do, apparently, and I have a nice bit of patience with newbies. How on earth did you get here without going through the doom9.org homepage? The guides are there under your nose. Not to mention that the forum rules are on top of the page, and this is the single most important one: read the guides!!! It's obvious from your posts that you have no idea whatsoever what's going on.

BTW, manono, have to admit that Kona and the Big Island are much nicer than Honolulu and Oahu.
