I've been using cce 2.50 with virtual dub for frame serving i would
like to start using 2.64 but when i try to open the file from VD it
recognizes it as not being an avi can i get round this.

maybe try tje new link2 programm as follows:
create an .avs file (with this you nearly have the same resize and filter functions like in VD)
open it in link2 and make a fake .avi file this can be opened in cce2.6X...

the link2 way is faster than the vfapi way..
