I jsut encoded Captain Corelli's Mandolin (full AC3, 4CD Rip using Divx4.11) and I noticed that trying to skip around in the movie took forever. I loaded up the AVI in Vdub and I found that there were no keyframes in the entire movie. Anybody know why this would be the case or how I could get GKnot to insert keyframes?

4 cd's?? What filesystem do you use?Cause if you use FAT32 you can't get a avi file bigger than 2GB..Your avi might be corrupt.Personaly i think 4cd's is an overkill. So bye the DVD :) or compress it at 2cd's...

The file system is NTFS. There is still a 2GB limit on AVIs, but Vdub will still open them for editing (so I can cut them up into four bite-sized chunks).
Anyway, I'm going 4CD, because CDs are so cheap, and it doesn't require that much extra effort. I'm putting together a movie box that has 4 CD-ROM drives, so I don't have extra switching or anything.
Anyway, anybody have any ideas on the keyframe issue? Also, is there any way to check if the AC3 sound is intact and available on a AVI? I can't seem to get PowerDivx to output AC3.
