View Full Version : How I dealt with my CCE freezing problem

I've been having a lot of problems recently with CCE 2.50 freezing in DVD2SVCD. First of
all my PC config:
1 GHz Athlon
Asus A7V motherboard
512 MB memory (from www.crucial.com)
60 GB ATA/100 hard drive
Windows 2000

Recently I started having CCE freeze in DVD2SVCD. I should add that I have added the
watermark remover patch and CRC checking patch to CCE. I have read everything I can
about the problem and tried all kinds of things. I tried older versions of CCE. That made
no difference, so I went back to 1.06 release 4. Here's what I finally did to get it to work
last night:
added Service Pack 2 to Windows 2000. However, after I installed this and rebooted, I
tried to recover from a crash file and CCE still froze up. I deleted everything I had
ripped so I could start over. I left the quality setting at 17. Previously I had used 15.
I changed the Image setting back to the default, which is I think Vcdxbuild. I had tried
using I-Author. Finally, I set VBR to 1 pass. Last night I let my rip go and it did work.
I had recently tried using 3 or 4 passes on VBR and CCE would freeze up on the 2nd
pass every time. Some DVDs have been considered problematic, so maybe I have one.
I've been trying to rip the old Russian sci-fi classic _Solaris_, should anyone care. Maybe
this will help some people, maybe not. I definitely think that I am going to leave the
quality setting at 17 and Vcdxbuild on. I might try playing with the number of passes
in the future on another DVD. The quality really is pretty good on 1 pass and if you guys
are also having trouble with CCE freezing, you might consider doing the same thing.

That's not solving the problem. It freezes every time between a pass. When you use 1 pass, it don't have to make the step to the next pass.

I had the problem for myself, and it's a real pain in the ass. But i installed win 2k again, and dvd2svcd, and all went good. And when i used the computer a lot of time ( i did make a ghost file ) then i put back the backup. It worked every time. Till now. The backup won't do it anymore and freezes the program. So the software hasn't changed anything, becouse the ghost file is good. So it must be a hardware problem.... so now figure out what i did change.......

Sorry if you misunderstood, but at no point did I say I solved the problem. I simply told
what I did to work around it. I guess I should clarify that I am running VBR in multipass mode so I do create the VAF file, but I just run one pass after the statisctics are gathered. Not ideal, but at least for now it works and I can use DVD2SVCD. I'd rather be able to use it this way than nothing and I really just wanted to suggest to people that if they are also having problems, they might want to try what I did.

Yeah alot of people have done the single pass vbr and it helps them.. We are now doing tests, to see if we can figure out the crash. Hey I have an idea why not come over to the test area, and give us some input after you have run the test. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17518

ALso there is a system test we'd like you to try. here is the link to that http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17696
