I'm trying to compress a avi movie file to fit on a 80min CD-R. The movie has a sampling rate of 24000Hz. What number should I put for the audio in the bitrate calculator and what number should I put under the mp3 compressor when I set audio to full processing mode?
Like would I set it to 56kBit/s 24000Hz Stereo, 48kBit/s 24000Hz Stereo, 40kBit/s 24000Hz Stereo, or some other setting?

OK-I'll try. I don't think I'd try and recompress the audio. I think it's pretty bad quality to begin with, and it certainly won't improve any with recompression. So just strip the audio from the .avi with the Save WAV command in VDub/Nandub, and mux it back in afterwards.

As for the bit rate calc. Can you figure bit rate with the audio in MB? If the CD-R is 700 MB, and the audio when stripped out is 50 MB, then figure for 650 MB for the video. If your bit rate calc can't do it that way, then GKnot's can.

And of course the video will only degrade with reencoding, but I guess you already know that.
