Hi!
I've updated my program, DivX DRF Analyzer, to read quantizers from DivX4 files.
Unfortunally the DivX Codec changes the way information is stored in the file in the different codec versions. I've tested with 4.0 and 4.12. Could anyone test it with other versions or provide me samples?
Thank You

lo nfj
sorry for bringing this old thread up again, but with the upcoming of more and more mpeg-4 hardware players (and with the problems with b-frames and packed bitstreams) is it maybe possible to implement some sort of detection of how many b-frames are used consecutive in the analysed file?
thanks :)

Hi bond-
I agree that something like that would be useful. But as I understand the problem with some standalones, they'll play 1 B-Frame OK, but with more than 1, they have problems. It's usually easy to tell if more than 1 B-Frame has been used. With just 1 B-Frame, the B-Frame percentage is less than 50%, and with 2 or more B-Frames, the percentage goes above 50%. I think.
It may be a little bit trickier if you want to know if the number used was 2 or 3 or more. I usually make mine with 1 B-Frame, although my standalone (using the first generation Sigma Designs chip) doesn't have any problem with multiple B-Frames. But from the little testing I've done, 2 B-Frames shows as around 50-55% , and 3 or more as more than 55%. But I've done very little testing with multiple B-Frames.
Since nfj doesn't seem to visit here regularly, maybe you've already thought of e-mailing him, or leaving a message at his site (http://www.geocities.com/analyzerDRF/).

thanks for your observations, manono
i am sure they are helpfull as a guideline, but a tool which really analyses and counts the consecutive b-frames would be great and far easier to use for newbies :)
yep i thought about mailing him, but i hope he also got a mail when i posted here
its easier to discuss this way
maybe it would be also nice if the tool could report a "this file doesnt include a packed bitstream" message if thats the case
ok altough i didnt get an answer here another issue: drf analyzer doesnt seem to be able to detect n-vops (altough it seems to should be able as it lists "n frames", but always displays 0%)
i tested this with clips from 3ivx, nerodigital and xvid, which had n-vops in it
