Hmm, looks like download utils like GetRight are rejected by the new scripts. Oh well, it's not like we're downloading ISO's or anything. :-)

insomnia: I tested these 2 browsers (along with netscape 6.x).. they work just fine. The trick is NOT to right click and select save-as or paste a link into a new browser as this won't send a referer and you'll be locked out.

Not all servers have the script yet (for IIS we have to install a custom ISAP filter but that should happen soon).

A regular left click on any link works just fine in the 3 browsers mentioned above, and if the download manager takes the referer from the page where it got the link there's no problem there either. But, blocking an empty referer is necessary since dl managers have the nasty ability (for end users it's great but for webmasters it's a pain in the ass) to search for alternative download locations, so somebody clicking on a download link for one of the softwares that I also have, could in fact lead to the download coming from my site instead. That being said I hope you understand the necessity of these measures. If you followed the apache thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15832&highlight=apache) you can see some actual numbers on the effect of such a referer check. It's the most effective method to cut down the bandwith usage and stop the ever ongoing link stealing.

Go to Getright Configuration,
under Advanced/Protocol check Send "Referer" in HTTP Request
and then select Generated from the download URL.

Getright 4.5c now works. :)

Copy & Paste from Getright Help:

Generated from the download URL: Send a generated value for the "referer".
The value is generated as: http://server/path/index.html where server is the server name from the URL of the file and path is the directory to where the file is located
(so for "http://www.xyz.com/files/setup.zip" the referer sent would be "http://www.xyz.com/files/index.html").
This will help with some servers that do checks that you clicked on the link to the URL from their web site
and GetRight is getting the referer from the wrong browser window.
