Ahoy everybody,

I took the time and tried to start a documentation about the XviD-VfW-interface settings.

It is just a draft, any input is welcome.

Find it at

(called XviD Options Explained ;) )

Sorry, that nickname derived from my "real world" family name ;)

I prefer Beck's ;)

Cheers,
Koepi

P.S.: enjoying my last beck's for today, then going to bed... :)

This is getting a bit off-topic now :D

Yes I also prefer Beck's but the best is still Rothaus Tannenzäpfle ;)

Hm. If it's even called "Zäpfle" I hope you don't need to apply it like one...
Or that it isn't like one( für'n Arsch.. ;) )...

Let's stop this OT now ;)

Question:

Do I use the "2-Pass Options" settings in both passes or just the last (second pass)?

How about the Quantizer settings?

I think that it doesn't matter what settings you choose in first pass, right?

Thanks,

Dali

As it's written in XOE, first pass gets done with a fixed quantizer (2). You have to choose the quantization type.

Or didn't I write it there?

Well there is some new options in 2-pass second pass Internal. Mind explaining em Koepi or adding em to your nice Options Explained? :)

Maybe you could have a html version of the guide? I pretty much prefer html, like Doom9's guides.

I'm nearly finished with 1.0 (final release). Just want to go over it tomorrow once more.

And nope - I won't release it as html this time. I want it to be included with XviD binary distributions. I want everybody to have it. So noone can ask questions already answered in there :)
And therefore .pdf seems the most portable solution. Everyone can print out his own "handbook" out of that. html just makes the people think "ah well, let's read this now, that then" and ask stupid stuff in the meantime ;)

Just my oppinion ;)

Koepi

Don't take this personally Koepi, but I think that your final guide should be more clear in terms of syntax. This means that your English should be checked for clarity, because I have trouble understanding some things. Perhaps english isn't your original language?

Also, could you give more "definitive" explanations instead of "speculative" explanations. This means that could you give exact parameters and thier effect upon video compression, then the explanation of the parameter?

Thanks,

Also if you need help with english, I could help. (once again, don't take this personally)

It will be a little more straight when it's ready.
It won't be the technical reference that you seem to expect (as nobody does understand that, why should i go too deep into the matter?).

As always in OS, you are absolutely free to make it better and start your own documentation. I just wanted to make a start. If you don't like it, don't read it. Don't say bad things about it - just make it better to show that it's easily possible.

Koepi
