Hey, I've made alot of SVCD's and now for some reason everytime I try and run it, it locks at 24% thru making the .mpv file.
I've updated to 1.0.6 Build 4.
Reinstalled windows twice.
Defraged the drive.
I'm out of ideas :(
Any help on this would be great.

Thanks

Has this lockup happened on different movies, or is this with the same movie? Reason why I ask is some movies have been known to give more trouble when encoding with cce then others "shrek" is a good example of this.

hello. i would suggest you run the prime95 torture to see whether your system is the problem. the url for the prog is http://www.mersenne.org/prime.htm.....download the software and run the torture test for about 24 hours and post the results. hope this helps

could be the movie.. I tried rd to eldorado and it kept locking in the 30% range and only way I could do it was cbr with Q& quality @ 5
turned out great though..

I do have the problem. I did have a good ghost image from a working one, but upgradet to v6 4 and now it freezes.... &$(@&()@$

I put back the image (did it often, when the system was f*cked-up) and the good image also freezes.... and before, it worked always great. So i looked what i had changed after the image... that was the HD partition. I always work with Fat32, and now the image is on NTSF, so maybe that's the problem? i mean the place where the prog do his work.... so i reformat into Fat, and see if the problem is over. The system can't be the problem, nothing has changed on hardware. And software i had a good working image file... su the "freeze" problem is not realy solved yet? ;(

Hi,
i had the same Problem (cce freezing) and found that the reason was, that when the avg. maximum Bitrate is too high (Difference between max. Bitrate and avg. max. Bitrate to small) CCE freezes.

I lowered the avg. max. Bitrate and now it works fine.

(btw this was already Subject in an earlier thread)

(btw this was already Subject in an earlier thread)

That was a possibility, not the problem. For one it worked, the other not. I did lower it a lot, and used now standards of svcd, but same freeze. DId also try a fat32 partition instead of ntfs, but same freeze. So we continue the battle.

(i thought the problem was solved after version 6 r1... but it isn't looks to me ;( )

Thanks for your help & ideas.
I've since deleted the files for that movie beacause every other movie i've done this week has worked just fine.
I guess the VOB files were broken :(

I'll try it again another day :D

Thanks again

Yes shrek and swordfish have to be the ones that have given the most problems. So dont fret, this business of conversion is not perfect just yet:)

Tho i did swordfish and didnt have a problem with it. Havent tried shrek..i guess i'm a little scared??? naww just havent bought the movie yet :)

That explains alot LoL :D

Still i'm gonna try and do it again
It's a good movie and i dont really wanna keep the .avi version.

The only other movie i've had problems with was Sowrd Fish but even then it was nothing like this.

I also experience problems when trying encoding 'Shrek' (PAL version) with CCE 2.62.

My settings is as follows:
- Frameserve with DVD2AVI --> VFAPI 1.04
- Encoding with CCE 2.62
- 4 pass VBR 2230 (300-2530)
- Progressive frames / Linear quant. / zigzag scanning
- 4:3 Aspect Ratio
- GOP M=3, N/M=4
- Image Quality Priority = 17, Noise Filter = 2

The encoding stops during generation of the .avf file with error:
'cce encoding failed: CBR VBV ovf frame #38752 ... I 122896(11.0) max 120382.81 (10.8) ...'

As far as I can understand, this means an overflow of the VBV buffer. When looking further in the GOP information generated so far (click on the 'advanced' button for multipass VBR), this shows that encoding stopped in middle of a GOP that doesn't look much more complex than the previous one.

I tried to reduce the max. bitrate but with no avail. I'll try now to reduce the avg. bitrate, but it really is not that high. I'll also try to convert the video to 16:9 (adding the 2 black zones) which hopefully should reduce information to encode in the video.

EDIT: I posted this message in thisthread (http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13320), which seems more appropriate.

Let me share my experiance with CCE 2.50 lock-ups:

After DVD2SVCD 1.06 build 4 I noticed that during the encoding of certain DVD's CCE would just stop, no crash, just stop and at different points (30%, 60% etc.). After trying this and that tweak, I just felt that it was the output drive, so I formated (NTFS) and tried the the whole process again...No problems! This proved to be true for all of the previous titles that gave me problems as well.

Somehow just deleting the old files and defraging the disk just doesn't do it after a while, as I convert 5-10 DVD's a week. I no longer delete-defrag-delete-defrag.....forever. I will up the drive (60GB Dedicated) and delete-defrag once or twice before a re-format.

Just thought I'd share, I don't know if others have had this problem and used this solution.

My hardware is:
Dual AthlonMP 1800+
Tyan Tiger MP
Win XP Pro
512 Crucial DDR
80GB 7200 WD
30GB 7200 WD
GeForce 2 GTS Pro 64MB DDR
Antec-400 Watt
CCE 5 pass VBR + Default Settings

CCE Encoding Speed 2.0-2.2 (Oh Ya!)

I'm having the same problem with SHREK and CCE stops also at 24%. But the strangest thing is that I've done an XSVCD with build 3 and that worked fine. I just wanted to get an standard (compliant) SVCD and this doesn't work. Could it be a problem of DVD2SVCD?

X2C, do you have a version before 6 and build 4?

What you could do is run cce manually with the same settings as you do when using dvd2svcd. That could narrow down your problem. Of course i'm talking about the svcd settings you say give you problems

I get stuck at 30% systematically on my miniDV encode, it's towards the end of the first pass (not counting the .vaf creation).
I tried build 3, still no go :-(
HELP !

I have had the same problem with 2 movies in a row using a newly installed v1.07b2 I have since gone back to v1.06b3 and am back to making successful backups once again. It does "seem" to be something with the new version but I have not tried v1.07b3 yet to see if it helps fix the problem.

Well all i can say is all you guys having problems do some tests. If you are using dvd2vscd and you are finding that that when you do a movie cce stops at a certain percerent then try 1 more time, and change the max bitrate from 2530 to 2430 also leave max average at 2230. Now see if it still locks up, if so then do this test ok??? Run CCE with the same settings as dvd2svcd would run through it so whatever you have had selected in dvd2vscd for cce do that manually. If you could do that and post back what the results are thanks.
