Hi all,
I've made mpg2 streams in cce250 from an NTSC/29.97 avi.
Encoding them as straight non-progressive, they come out great.
I can then MUX in tmpgenc with the audio and make the SVCD.

But what if the AVI is 23.96 fps, produced from DVD2AVI using the
"force film" option? What's the best way to do the mpg2 in cce250
with the ultimate aim of producing an svcd?

cheers,
Dave

ever read a cce guide? they all tell you that if your input is 23.976fps you have to apply pulldown.exe (available on my page, as usual) to the output.. then you have a 29.97fps stream

Hi - I have heard of pulldown.exe, I read about it here in your LSX
guide. Do you have a cce guide ? I'll take a look.

When I tried pulldown.exe with LSX 23.96 mpg2, tmpgenc had problems
MUXing the sound afterwards....
I never did get it to work - the video ended about 10 seconds before
the sound (the audio had the correct length - 3 minutes 28 seconds).

I took another look at pulldown.exe and I think the problems I had were because I neglected to use the -framerate 23.976 parameter - somehow I missed it - all is good now , thanks.

Now all I have to do is find the right tradeoff between
Q (quantization factor), image quality priority, and Min and Max
bitrates, using one pass vbr, mpg2 settings appropriate for svcd.

I'm experimenting with the "nowhere man" chapter of "yellow submarine"
- it's quite a good test, quite complex with a fair bit of motion.
I've done a series of tests, and I think I'm getting close:
Q=50, image quality priority=5, Min=1100, Max=2600 yields the
following results in the bitrate viewer:
BRmax 2728, BRavg 2015, Qmax17.32 Qavg8.28.

Using lsx, I was able to get a slightly lower Q reading for the given
bitrate. This suggests that lsx has better output (even if it's
slower) Perhaps I need to play with CCE's settings a little more?
