Which audio format use DVD2SVCD?
Mpeg1 Layer2 VBR or Mpeg1 Layer2 CBR?

doing 5 minutes of research you would find out that it's cbr. instead you've waited 2 days, and then cross posted the same question... i don't get it.

I have searched in the faq, but I haven't found nothing about the audio format.

Why DVD2SVCD use CBR if DV2SVCD use toolame, which can encode in VBR mode?

my guess is that svcd doesnt support vbr audio

Hmmmm, vcdhelp points to this page (home->svcd->even more info on svcd): http://www.cdrinfo.com/articles/svcd/index.shtml. It says that "The Audio streams are selectable by the user, and VBR coding is used for a more efficient compression."

Anyone can confirm this?

Thx,

I guess this VBR thing is correlated to multichannel 5.1 mpeg2 audio, which is also supported by SVCD spec. However, there is not so much player which can handle these mpeg2 audio. The mpeg1 layer II used here is the same used in VCD spec, which is CBR.

only mpeg2 multichannel supports vbr.. and I don't think there even is an encoder out there. PAL DVDs initially were supposed to have mpeg2 multichannel audio rather than Dolby Digital. Eventually they switched over prior to the official launch of DVD in Europe, for reasons which never have been properly published. Some speculate Philips and Sony which were pushing for the mpeg2 multichannel format couldn't deliver working encoders, others claim that player would have synchronization problems when using vbr audio (if you're into divx you know that vbr audio is problematic as the audio stream is normally used to synchronize playback).

there are 2 players that support the format. you can find more info about the format on this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1782

Are you sure?
I think that the SVCD standard accept the mpeg1 layer 2 VBR audio (not multichannel).
So could be possible have a bit higher bitrate for video.
This evening I'll try it.
