View Full Version : Question for all those that had the CCE CRC error

I just finished an encode of Snow White and for the first time in about 100 conversions I got a CRC error. Instead of applying the patch I just decided to start the encode over again and see what would happen. The second encode went without a problem.
For those that got the error, was it all the time or only once in a while?
Anyone just get it once or twice and then never again?
Once you got it the first time after doing a few encodes did it happen all the time?
CCE continued like nothing happened after I clicked ok, but I decided to start over anyway. Anyone actually finish the errored encode and did it come out ok?
Thanks,
Mark

After tweaking some memory setting in my bios i got the crc error 4 times in a row. 3 on 1 movie and once on another movie. After that i reset my bios to default and haven't had a problem since.

Hey markrb
When did you become mod? Congragulations, I guess I havn't been around latly.
I did ask this exact question before but never got a reply. I can not do a multi pass without using the CRC patch on any movie and was wondering if anyone out there could do one without the patch.
I guess you answered my question. Its just not fair :( My Athlon 1.4G just isn't cut out to do SVCD's :(

GtMustangJim, my TB 1.4 does a great job. Do us a favor and run the prime95 torture test for a whole night (and day if you have the time) and see if it gets any errors. Markrb's post has got me to thinking that a dropped calculation or memory glitch might be causing this for some of the people.
I would ask anybody that has problems with CCE to do this test and let us all know if you get errors from the torture test.
We all know that there is hardly anything that pushes a machine as hard as CCE. We also know it will not tolerate any calc or memory errors so it may follow that some machines, even with stock settings, are having minor errors. This would not cause a crash but it might be enough to screw CCE.

Thats what I have. TBird 1.4. What kind of Ram do you have? I have 256 DDR SDRAM. I can't put more than 384 or my pc will flip out. I have tested my Ram before and it is 100% OK. I have also done that "Burn in Test" and it is good as well. I have some regular SDRAM I could throw in it but have not had the chance.

GtMustangJim Burn-In test, although good, is a wimp compared to Prime95's torture test in stressing the system.
I know my system is stable and I only had this error once in about 100 encodes. I was just curious if anyone else just had a one time issue too.

Markrb,
What kind of a system do you have? before your post I assumed everyone needed the CRC patch.
Also now that I have your ear can you tell me if the lastest ver of DVD2SVCD is good for interlased Anime? and if so could somebody give me some settings?
Thanks...

You have my ear? Oh so that is where it went.
I have an AMD XP 1700, 512mb DDR on a Soltek Motherboard running Windows XP Pro Corporate with all the XP patches.
I have never installed the CRC patch and I only got the error that one time. I have done a couple since I got it and I haven't gotten the error again.
Don't do anime so can't help you there.

markrb ,
lol, OK thanks.
Can you give mr the link to Prime95's torture test? Maybe I'll give it a try to see what happens on my system...

Try a Google search. It's pretty common and not commercial.
It's actually a research project looking for very high prime numbers use distributed computing. Kinda interesting like the Seti program looking for Aliens.

I havent run prime test but I will tomorrow when I come home.
but about the crc errors, I get them all the time and the encode will not go on after that but with the crc disabled no problem at all.

One point about Prime95 and my experiences.
Yes it gives memory a really hard time but be aware that it also gives swap files a really hard time. I have had stability problems for a while and only just got to the bottom of it all. I used Gold Memory or something like that to test memory alone and all was well (it boots from dos and obviously does not use swap files under DOS). The memory was all fine and eventually I came to the conclusion my swap file was the problem.
I have run my PC with Prime 95 for over 24 hours without crashes when the swap file was disabled.
I think I have a bad HD.
