First post :) and the very first thing I want to do is thank everyone
involved especially DVD2SVCD for this wonderful tool. :D

The tool works great and is very Straight forward. I am only
having a problem with one thing. :sly:

The SVCD images I make cut off the movie before I get to the end of the disk. No distortion to sound or video it just cuts off and sometimes I have to reboot because PowerDVD locks up. I don't see the "change cd" graphic. I suppose the media is cheap but I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. If so can someone tell me what media to use or what I am doing wrong?

I did not use the default settings in "Bitrate" because because I
was able to fit more of the movie with the lower (740 instead of
800) settings. But it didn't solve my problem about the movie being cut and PowerDVD locking up.

Hi 10Strip,

welcome to the forum - and btw very good example of a good first posting. :)

From the information you gave i would say it must be a problem of your standalone player as it seems that the encoding process worked properly. So give us some info on your standalone (as indeed that's the only info you forgot to post ;)). Or have a look at the compability list on this site for your standalone:

http://www.vcdhelp.com

There are some DVD players that can only play about 40 minutes or so of a SVCD so read the comments about yours on this site. And i think the problem with PowerDVD seems to be a different one - perhaps software issues.

Greetings,
gerti67

Edit:
Ups - on a second thought, i guess you are watching your SVCDs only on your PC. If so, try for example WinDVD and see if it plays the SVCDs just fine.

Greetings,
gerti67

Have you tried playing the SVCD in anything other than PowerDVD? If not, try it in a standalone, or try another software player like WinDVD. This could just be a problem with PowerDVD.

edit: looks like Gerti and I were both typing at the same time.:D

try loading the images you have created in daemon tools
and play powerdvd on that virtual cd
see if that works

Alright everyone, I don't have a DVD player to test on yet. I am in the market to get a Pioneer DV-343 or DV-444 Know the max bitrate is 2500 for that player too.

I played the movie on WinDVD and got the movie "Tombraider" to play for 3 minutes 33 seconds longer. I remember from reading the FAQ that I could use any CD-ROM to play the movie, I was using my Pioneer 106S. So I popped the movie into the Plex and yay it plays to the end. Didn't see the "Change Disk" picture though, the movie just restarts.
Note: I can play the whole movie to the end on either WinDVD and PowerDVD. Personally I like the user interface on PowerDVD.

Right about this time I got the notion to pop in my first rip. (Along Came a Spider) I ripped this DVD with the Default settings and it looks like the Durabrand media works great.

I deleted these .bin and .cue files to try and make the movie fit but I remember the .bin files being in the 820,000 KB size range.

Now all I have to do is go to Circuit City or Best Buy and verify my copies work on the player I want to buy.

I would like to know what media everyone likes to use anyway.

Thanks again!

10Strip welcome.

First off I would like to say that your setup and mine are very close so I may be able to help.

For the Pioneer 343 (which I own) the actual MAX is 2600, which used to be fine and dandy for me until 1.06, now I need my MAX to be at or under 2525 for it to play correctly with 224 audio. Great player for SVCD's, but discontinued about six months to a year ago.

I have used several brands of 80 minute CD-R discs with no problems. From hi end IBM to low end Hi-Tech. I am able to overburn to a total file size of 827 using 80 minutes discs with no problems with my player. My DVD2SVCD bitrate setting for CD size is at 821 I believe.

I have the Pioneer 116 which is the same unit as the 106S, just tray loading instead.

I just checked the change cd pic problem that you reported and WinDVD does not play the change CD pic, but my Pioneer DVD player does.

Just to add I get 100 90 minute CDR discs next week. Lets hope they work. 100-105 minute movies are killing me as I am picky about bitrate.

Good luck and happy encoding,
Mark

Hi 10Strip.
I'll have to go along with Mark on this one. I have a Pioneer 344 and it plays any brand CDR I feed it. I use a CDRW for testing purposes and it still plays perfectly after months of constant re-writing. I'm currently using Princo 80min CDR's (purely because a friend of mine has a Sony player that only reads this brand) & have found them reliable.

Have fun and I hope this helps you with your choice.
