Hi to everyone.
Well, I read various threads and I didn't find a solution yet.
I can't get subtitles to work on my Mustek 560 and on my Pioneer DV 444.
I tried also to download and burn the 3 test files found on http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5686 Q 17, but still they doesn't work.
Can someone help me to get them to work?
Thank you
Giorgio

You have three option to choose from as to how your subs are made. Certainly permanent subs should work if all fails.
I will move this to the other forum.

I also own a Mustek V560 (especially for VCD/SVCD) and I regret to inform you, that there seems to be a problem with subtitles, despite all that reports that this player can display them ..
SVCD Subtitles never worked .. even worse, SVCDs that have these kinds of Subtitles seem to crash playback :( All you can do is switch to another (unused) subtitle stream.
CVD Subtitles *do* work .. but the color palette is all wrong, all I get is white subtitles with white shadows, making them more or less useless as you cannot properly read them. And I thing they were too far at the bottom of the screen.
I also tested with the images you mentioned, same result ...
Otherwise, the player works fine.

Thank you....
So I will test again also with CVD subtitles.
Any info with Pioneer DV 444?

Thanks for everyone's inputs.
So, it seems that Pioneer DV444 does NOT support SVCD subtitles, and Mustek 560 maybe yes, maybe no..... (I have to try BArny solution).
So, this is basically a problem of my readers..... (not really very much important to me....).
Bye bye

Thank you BArny on your tip. That was very interesting, as I just got my hands on a Ultra-Cheapo it-plays-everything-but-my-shocks HiTO DVD player (also known as Hoyo 8050...) which refuses to show selectable subtitles of any kind (par DVD), although it is clearly written in the manual that it does so...
I only use VCDXBuild, but I'll give VCDimager a go.
If that works, it will solve a lot of mysterious problems concering subs.

Just tried a new round of freshly encoded SVCDs on my Mustek 560 ..
SVCD Subs do *not* work at all. No matter if I make the image with VCDXBuild or VCDImager, it doesn't work at all, the player even hangs when it should display subtitles ..
However, CVD Subtitles *DO* work now. I don't know if my first try was just bad luck or if changing the subtitle palette did the trick, but the subtitles are now working 100%, with either VCDXBuild or VCDImager.

Did your player EVER play SVCD subs? I ask, 'cause AFAIK, Mustecs support CVD style subs only. And judging by some postings here, they are "picky" on the colour palette.
