View Full Version : Scenarist BD 5.7 3D Subtitle problem

The last few days i've been trying to create a re-encoded 3D BD25 disc. Everything seems to work out fine, except for adding the subtitles. I use Sonic Cinevision 3.6.2 to encode the 3D and Sonic Scenarist BD 5.7 to author the new disc. And I use Lemony 4.5.4 to export subtitle files that are stereoscopic 3D and compatible with Scenarist.

My steps for adding subtitles to Scenarist:
1. Import .srt files in Lemony, select the right framerate and change the Layout resolution to 1920x1080
2. Then I load the subtitles and send them to Subtitler
3. After that I go to Subtitle-->Layout and click 'edit layout'
4. Effects --> Enable Stereoscopic 3D, but change effect to none (i'm not sure of this is right)
5. After that I edit the Style of the Layout and enable Stereoscopic 3D, I don't change the default settings (100%, -14)
6. After this, I right click Sequence>Track of the subtitle and do Save>Export Track
7. I enable "export script" as Scenarist BDN script Blu-ray v1.00 (tried 0.93 aswell) Images, because this is the only format that Scenarist accepts. I selected 'Arial Unicode MS' as font (got some chinese and japanese subtitles)
8. I also enable "export subpictures", using PNG 32 bits
9. At the options tab I select OFS as Stereoscopic mode (not sure of this is even right, i'm not familiar with all those types)
9. Eventually when I try to import the .xml file in Scenarist with Import>BDN file it results into this error:
http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/4643/bndreadpalleteerror.png

I also tried to export with only "export script" as Scenarist BDN script Blu-ray v1.00 (tried 0.93 aswell) Text, it resulted in this error:
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3828/fontnotfound.png
(this doesn't really make sense, since all the lettertypes I use are on my system, e.g. Arial)

My questions:
Am I using the right Stereoscopic 3D settings in Lemony?
Why do I get a font error when importing a text BDN?
Why do I get BDNreadpalleterror when importing an image BDN?
Anyone got suggestions for other settings to use for 3D subtitles in Lemony?

I would really appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

I have no experience of stereoscopic blurays, but you should use the PNG 8bit paletted alpha as a rendering export. You have exported 32bit PNG which is not supported (hence your first error message). BDN script for Text is used when you're working with TextST rather than PGS. TextST means that the subtitling will be made by the bluray player on the fly (you don't have PNG anymore, but text strings). This means that you also need to attach the truetype font in the Scenario (this explain the error about font not found)

Ok, thanks for the explanation on the BDN text part. When I switched to Sony BDN scripts instead of Scenarist it all started to work fine, i'm using PNG 8 bit palleted alpha now and that imported fine in Scenarist, although it gave a lot of warnings. With the 3D stereoscopic enabled it just adds the same line over the other but a few pixels to the left, I guess it'll show correctly when watching it in 3D.

Exporting to a BDN script works fine now, but choosing the right 3D stereotopic mode gives me some problems. I've tried OFS, but this didn't show to seperate subtitles in 3D mode, like the original BD50. So I thought Left + Right images would work, but this gives an error upon importing: Error : Invalid graphic attributes(X, Y, Height, Width). Composition areas must not be overlapped. Error : BDNImport failed. check an Event#1(English_Track_0001_L).

Anyone a clue how to fix this?

Scenarist doesn't work with right/left subtitles yet. Only with 2D+offset. But for some reason my experiments with .ofs was failed too. So if you want subtitles with depth you should set offset manually in scenarist.

Import simple 2D subtitles to clip and then right-click at playlist with 3d feature > Edit offset sequences

Choose fixed value.. you can start with -4

And activate this offset to desired PG

Why do as you said, I get an error? How to fix it?

Error : The window in XXX.pes is out of bounds: X is 0, width is 1920, offset value is -4, and video width is 1920.

I found why.Because there if a full screen black frame.

I've never tried importing 3D subtitles myself, but do you have to use 3D ones? Can you just use normal 2D subtitles and they'll just sit on the plane of the TV itself? Seems like, unless you want to play with the depth of the subtitles, it might just be easier to use normal non-3D blu-ray subtitles (unless you _have_ to use 3D generated subs...) Just a thought...
