View Full Version : Simulate The "look" Of An HD PVR?

Hi I was wondering if this was possible? I've found that even when people record in SD it still looks really nice, better than other cards. The PVR has a sort of "soft" look to it but retains the sharpness which I find pretty pleasing to me(a lot of people like the look of uncompressed video). I record from my PS3 at 480p with component cables YUY2 to UT Video Codec via Virtualdub(my capture card doesn't go up to 720 or 1080 sadly)

HD PVR: http://k.min.us/ij5HH2.png Look I'm trying to achieve.

HD PVR SD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLFdop_X9fI (couldn't find a picture sample) It still looks soft like the HD Picture above

My Quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X51rq1kCtzY

Black Magic Intensity Pro:http://www.electricblueskies.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/God-of-war-GOW-3-The-3-Judges.bmp Sharp image, not soft.

Lets say my capture card is the intensity pro(sorry I don't have any good samples right now, wish I had a picture) how would I go about making it looking "soft" like the PVR? What combination of Avisynth filters would be suitable for the job?

I'm new here so please go easy on me(always came to this site for scripts, never registered)

:thanks:

resize to 1024x576 (852x480) then resize again to 1280x720 (bicubic), limit output levels between 16 and 235(240).

Thanks, seems to work pretty well :). If anyone else has any other methods, please don't hesitate o share :D

haha - there is no other method - thanks to game consoles hardware limitations, graphic is frequently rendered in lower than 1280x720 resolution then with help of hardware resizer graphic is rescaled to 1280x720 - eventually You can think about worse kernel (worse than bicubic), video levels are standardized ie for PC values from 0 to 255 but for consumer video values from 16 to 235 for luma and RGB component.

Yeah I know all about that :). I just want to get that "soft" look, even on SD resolutions. The PC->TV helps my quality A LOT though.
