Sounds like a less than perfect rip, possibly performed by a slightly outdated version of DVD Fab QT or AnyDVD HD...

Cheers for the info setarip_old, just re-ripped twice over the weekend and the same thing is happening each time. using the latest DVDFab 8QT 8.1.6.1, so if anyone else has a solution to this strange problem it would be awsome.
Many thanks

I don't know if it addresses your problem, but you can download 8.1.6.6 beta from http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=16846

Just curious, is this a newly released version or something? Serenity came out on Blu-ray about 4 years ago or something... I would think any version of the ripping tools made in the last few years would work fine with this...
That's the US release tho, maybe this is a recently released international version?

I bought Serenity on HD-DVD. It was encoded with VC-1 and Dolby Digital Plus.
Out of interest, what video and audio formats are on the Blu-ray disc version?

it say's 1080p/VC1 and DTS-HD Master in dvdfab hope that helps.
anyways the latest DVDFAB 8QT 8.1.6.6 made no change still the same, has anyone cracked SERENITY yet?

I used AnyDVD HD + DGDecodeNV without any issues to recompress my Serenity bluray (http://www.amazon.com/Serenity-Blu-ray-Nathan-Fillion/dp/B001KOFH2G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1331750793&sr=8-4).
Edit: Sorry, nothing about menus >.>

Like I said, Serenity is a 4 year old disc... It doesn't have any copy protection on it other than AACS, with is easily removed. I've never used DVDFAB before, try AnyDVD...
But you said it plays fine up to the feature, can you see video? Like the menu loop and trailers or whatever? If so, the disc is ripped correctly. There's something else wrong on your system that's preventing playback. Do you hear audio and just no picture, or nothing at all?
How about playing the feature .M2TS file by itself in Windows Media Player or PowerDVD?
Have you ripped any other VC-1 Blu-rays? Are you sure you have a Blu-ray compatible VC-1 decoder installed on your computer?
No one else has a problem ripping the disc, so we really can't help you without more information...

put it on a bd-re for trying in my bluray player
1) Try playing it on another standalone player (Different brand, different model)
2) Spend a few cents and try in on a BD-R...

@rik1138 yes menus and setting work ok but when i press to play movie it just goes black no sound nothing happens at all, ripped and coverted over 30 blurays so far without a problem e.g clash of the titans,bolt,super8,300,ironman2,terminator salvation ect..with menus. so it looks like it going to be just the movie without menus for this one then cheers for the comms Guys

Nobody is required to help you. If one does it is because s/he wants to help. You can't use sarcasm upon people even if you hired them ... much less when these [try to] help you for free...

And what about just playing the M2TS file itself in Media Player or PowerDVD or something? Get out of the menus/disc image, etc and see if the video stream itself plays. (How big is the feature M2TS file? Maybe it couldn't rip it completely for some reason and it's corrupt..)
so it looks like it going to be just the movie without menus for this one then cheers for the comms Guys
So, the video will play back outside of the menus?
If the copy protection wasn't removed correctly, you wouldn't see any video anywhere, so we know it's ripped okay (assuming the disc is okay). Can you play the disc itself on your computer?
I ripped the disc last night (using AnyDVD, not DVDFab though), and it plays fine on PowerDVD 7, PowerDVD 8, Total Media Theater, VLC 2.0 (feature only, no menus), and Windows Media Player (feature only, no menus...
So either a problem with the rip (or the ripping software), or maybe there's a bug in the player you are using causing the Java menus to crash when you play the movie... Even though it's an old disc, a newer version of the player might be screwing something up...
Another thing to try is to clear the persistent storage of the player, start the disc/rip and make sure you say 'No' to updating anything via BD-Live. Don't let it download anything, but you have to clear the memory of the player first. (In general, it's always a good idea to make sure your player can't actually access the internet. If you decide you have to use a BD-Live feature later, you can turn it on manually. But allowing the player to just download whatever it wants, especially on a ripped disc, it just asking for playback problems...)

the M2TS file is 18GB and plays fine in media player.
The disc plays fine in the computer (feature only, no menus) windows media player, also bud av updated my firmware on my bluray LG BD650 player to see if that would help but it never.
rik1138 thanks for info bud i apreciated :D
i think iam going with no menu for this one
