Wikipedia says (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video) that DVD-video can have "full bitrate" (1536Kbits) DTS audio, but has anyone actually managed to buy, rent or find a DVD with such a DTS track? Of course, since DTS isn't part of the original specification and support isn't mandatory by DVD players, you can probably mux a DTS track of any bitrate you want, but we can't really call it supported unless someone has released a commercial DVD with it.

Can modern DTS home cinema systems cope with such bitrate, or you 'll have to use one from the laserdisc era?

An easy search would have turned up the answer. It's 'yes', commercial retail DVDs using full bitrate DTS audio exist. Quite a few, in fact. Here's a list from 2005. I don't know how many since then have been released with full bitrate DTS. I own the House Of Flying Daggers EDKO Hong Kong DVD with the full bitrate DTS audio:

Here's the proof for the House Of Flying Daggers DVD:

DTS is supported on DVD. it's certainly not a mux trick.

"full rate" DTS can be hidden in a PCM track of course (it's designed for it in fact - so you can squeeze 6 channels of audio over a 2 channel SPDIF link), however DVD recognizes the difference.

there's tons of discs out there with full-rate DTS, but it's not popular because it sounds subjectively no better than ac3 and steals heaps of bandwidth from the video. half-rate DTS is more band-limited than full rate (and an ac3 track of nearly half the size), but i've yet to hear actual artefacts with it on cinematic material.
