Hi
I am trying to figure out what the GOP should be for Blu-ray compliance re MPEG2. Some info I have gathered:

MPEGRepairHD: GOP 15 with P Frame Dist 3

Apple Compressor: Closed GOP Size: 15, Structure: IBBP

TMPEG 4.0:
GOP Menu:
I pictures: 1
P Pictures: 5
B pictures: 2
GOP frames: 18

Cleaner XL 1.5: GOP Size: 6; GOP Pattern: IBBPBBP...

HCEncGui: 1080p autoGOP 15; 720p autoGOP 12

MainConcept:
re 720p I frames 6; P frames 3 [BBIBBP]
re 1080p I frames 15; P frames 3 [BBIBBPBBP]

Also, is it OK to use closed GOPs

TIA

See the attachment. You can use closed or open GOPs. Since they specify *displayed* fields, watch out for pulldown.

Thanks neuron2

BTW, where you typed "See here:"
Is there supposed to be a url link?

Also, I noticed in latest HCEncGui - when I import a 720p 23.976 avs file and click "make BD compliant" the autogop goes to a value of 12 and 3:2 pulldown gets checked.
Is this what you meant - because a 3:2 pulldown here would make 29.97 fps which isn't Blu-ray compliant?

TIA

Check my post again. I attached the figure as it wouldn't hot link for some reason.

The figure and your understanding of pulldown will answer your questions.
