Hi, am using Vidcoder (variation of Handbrake) to encode blue ray to 720p mkv. Since i am about to get an audio card that supports "Dolby headphone" , i thought to encode audio to Dolby PrologicII, in order to save bitrate for the video (i am not crazy about sound either).

In Handbrake, the default is DPLII + AAC. I am not very familiar with AAC and i am worried about compatibility with various devices. To this day i 've never had issues with AC3 and i see that Handrake allows DPLII + AC3 at 224kbps, however by googling i see that nobody seems to be using this combination.

Is it OK to use AC3 instead of AAC? Or, if i use DLPII+AAC are there incompatibility issues that i should be aware of (like devices that can't play AAC?).

Thank you in advance.

Of course you can use DPL II with AC3, and AC3 can be flaged to force receivers apply the DPL decoder to recover the surround sound.
With AAC you need set the DPL decoder manually.
