hello everybody,

here's an idea :
how about creating a similar database to CDDB, just for dvds ?
it can include info that will drop the need for 2pass encoding, it can include checksums and other error handling data.
well, it can include any other useful info... :)

any1 interested in raising up this kind of database ?
or maybe a database like this already exists..

@Doom9, @ChristianHJW,
do you think it would be useful ?

Well, the story is way more complicated than CDDB... A song name is always the same, regardless if you encode the audio cd to r3mix LAME or alt preset. Or MPC... Or... You get the point...

And DVD is even more complicated... What codec? What tool? What settings? DVD's are not of the same quality (some R1 are way better quality than R2, or vice versa etc.)...

I can only see that "rules" like the pirates have (don't remember the name of it), could bring some (!) order, but why should I encode at a specified setting by someone who maybe doesn't have a clue?

When Nandub started there were many sites that tried a similar thing, all failed.

But, maybe you had a different approach in mind...

Cheers,

Ookie.

I agree with Ookami, it will be very difficult to share stats or log files because there are so many variables that can be made differently ( like filtering, start and stop frames, what resizing filter, etc. ) i guess its simply impossible.

BTW : what about Vorbis support in BeSweet DSPguru :D ? Of course, it must be multichannel .... this time DarkAvenger is ahead of you my friend .... ;)

BTW : what about Vorbis support in BeSweet DSPguru :D ? Of course, it must be multichannel .... this time DarkAvenger is ahead of you my friend .... ;) didn't have time to check the vorbis.dll. in fact i M working on multichannel - Mpeg2Multichannel ;).
i'm planning to offer 48khz AC3->44.1khz Mpeg2multichannel direct conversion with BeSweet. this feature would make DVD2SVCD the most amazing DVD->SVCD tool in the world (although it's already DA BEST :D).
I will create a mpeg2multichannel dll encoder, and integrate it with BeSweet.
in fact, this m2mc encoder might become my next biG project. (make it fast and HQ).

btw, remind me why would we want to create Multichannel OGGs ? why not keeping the original AC3 stream rather than transcoding and loosing quality ?

... what about half the bitrate for comparable quality :D ? ...

the DVDb idea seems quite interesting, could be very useful for less experienced users too...they could simply enter the name of their film and get a small number of different settings which are recommended. more advanced users would likely still want to work them out for themselves but i could see such a database having a use

But too many varibles because of the different codecs.... and XviD will soon certainly become a major player, if not the main codec to be used.

But I wouldn't mind giving a helping hand anyway :D.
