View Full Version : AVCHD folders made using multiAVCHD on PS3 issues!

I made a few AVCHD folders with multiAVCHD and played them with a slim (new, recently purchased) PS3 and a Think (old and I kept its 4.0 firmware un-updated) PS3. Here is the result:

On New (Slim) PS3:
- Welcome page well played, sound and image
- XML title menu pages well played, sound and image
- when clicking on any one title, no response; sometimes, only audio, no video
- get off the AVCHD play, going into file lists and into the /BDMV/STREAM/ folder and clicking on any 000XX.MTS individual files, both audio and video play well (of course with hick-ups when changing files for long movies);

On Old (Thick) PS3:
- Welcome page well played, sound and image
- XML title menu pages well played, sound and image
- when clicking on any one title, both audio and video play well, for very few titles only audio, no video
- going into the /BDMV/STREAM/ folder and clicking on any 000XX.MTS individual files, both audio and video play well

This never happened when using mkv2vob from same .mkv files (maybe because mkv2vob doesn't specify NTSC or PAL?). Of course, mkv2vob doesn't support multi-audio tracks and no subtitle if not re-encoded for built-in subtitles.

Any idea and suggestions for solution?

Thanks.

The video size/resoultion may be incorrect.

I had some videos that were 1920 X 800 and when I made avchd of it it would give me blackscreen but audio would play on ps3. The individual m2ts files from the stream folder would play on my ps3 if I put them on a usb stick, but not from a disc.

You will have to transcode them to 1920 X 1080

In addition, have you output the PS3 compatible files (there is an option to output files for PS3)? The author of multiAVCHD has himself a PS3, go imagine multiAVCHD can definitively be 100% compatible. ;)
I assume you checked the other threads, here and elsewhere, about the peculiarities of PS3 and [generic] AVCHD formats.

you dont have to specifically choose output as PS3. I have been just choosing the blue-ray disc option and the avchd plays fine when I burn to a bd-r.

Its a picture size problem as I have had 2 video files give black screen and audio. One was 3840 X something and teh other was 1080 x 800.

Video justs need to be fixed

Is your PS3 slim or thick? I'm using (always) USB HD and never BR-DISK. Old Thick PS3 works and New Slim doesn't.

Always clicked on "PS3" from the option panel. The issue is that Old-Thick PS3 works fine, New-Slim PS3 doesn't.

So the PS3 returned to its original purpose, playing games, now, that Sony won the format war :)
