View Full Version : Ripped DVD, but no .bin or .cue files

I used DVD2SVCD ver 1.0.6 build 4 to rip Reservoir Dogs. I followed the tutorial and did everything it told me to do. But, after the rip, it did not leave me with any .bin or .cue files. The files are:
DVD2AVI_PROJECT_FILE.d2v
dvd2svcd project file.d2s
dvd2svcd_log.txt
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.vob
I thought that there would be bin and cue files to burn, but they're not there! Do I have to encode them first or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Rhoemer33,
from the file list only it is hard to tell what went wrong so please post the dvd2svcd_log.txt file for further help on that.

It might have been because I did not have any ASPI Layers installed. I just installed them. Here is the log:

I have no idea, but the vob file is 4.4 GB, so it did rip it, just not into cue and bin files, which it should?

Did you already try again with the ASPI installed?
And to just make it clear, you will not have any *.cue and *.bin files directly after the ripping step as it is only one of the first steps of the whole encoding process that will take (depending on your hardware and your dvd2svcd settings) a couple of hours (10-12 i think in your case). Read the Newbie FAQ and the Official Q&A on that (if not already done).
But anyway, if trying with ASPI installed fails you could try using vStrip for it in "DVD Rip" tab and if that will not work either, you could use smartripper instead. It might help if you tell us what DVD you are trying to rip because there are some known "trouble-makers", so please report back on that hints.

No, I did not try it again with the ASPI installed. Yeah, sorry, I thought there must have been more to the encoding process. The movie is "Reservoir Dogs".
I will read up on it more and go from there. I think I will try it again with the ASPI installed. Thanks for the advice!

thats an awfully strange looking logfile.
-57 rip speed has me confused: should be 3000+ i would have thought.
i processed res dogs r1 with no problems.
how much hard drive space do you have ?
how long did it take to rip the disk ?
did u in fact end up with 1 vob file which was over 4 gig in size as you suggest ?
what OS are you using ?

Something looks really wrong. You should not have 1 VOB file of 4.4gb, but 5 VOB files the first 4 at 1gb and the last with the .4.
It looks like you used internal rountines, did you?
Was this rip from a DVD or from the HD?
The strange thing is that if the Aspi drivers were not there it shouldn't have been able to rip at all.
Just trying to get some clarification.

I have a hardrive of 20 Gigs, it took like 2 hours to rip, yes the vob file was over 4 Gigs, and I am running Windows XP Pro. Yes I used internal routines and I ripped it from the DVD.
Yeah, this is the first dvd that I tried to rip and I did not have any ASPI Layers installed. I think that was the problem.
Since then I tried ripping the DVD using Smartripper, and DVD2AVI, and TMPGEnc (and VFAPI) to encode it. The rip went better, as I ended up with 5 vob files. I Frameserved it with DVD2AVI without a problem also. I started the encoding with TMPGEnc, and it was working fine, but stopped at 14%. I haven't tried it again yet, but hopefully it will work this time.
Is this the easy way to rip and encode dvd's or is using DVD2SCVCD easier? And which one is better, and differences?
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Using DVD2SVCD is by far the easiest way to convert a DVD if everything works well. It takes several programs and makes a frontend and automates much of the conversion process while still leaving enough versatility to change things to fit your liking better.
Using TMPG is pretty easy too, but the quality using CCE is much better with SVCD's.
It is definately worth trying to figure out what is going wrong for you to get a better encode.
I never have any problems as long as I install PowerDVD first. This program installs a pretty nice Aspi driver of it's own.
You could aslo install the Force Aspi drivers that there is a link in the Q + A or the Newbie Faq, I forget which one.
Read up on the Q + A and the Newbie Faq too. Taking ten minutes now can save you much trouble later.
Have a read of the DVD2SVCD guide on Doom9 as well.

your problem is SURELY the aspi. winXP needs an aspi and you need to install it. As mark said, search for it in the Q&A. Smartripper can work for you because it has an alternative way of work, using windows I/O commands. However, this doesn't means that it is better than an aspi based ripper.
