i think i've been here before. When i watch an mkv or use multiavchd to encde it, the subtitles always appear.

If you're referring to watching them on a PC, you've probably got to tell your media player not to automatically load subtitles or to turn them off.... assuming in the case of MKV there's a subtitle included in the file rather than it being hardcoded. It's a bit hard to give instructions without knowing what media player you use and/or what device you're using to play them.
I've never used multiavchd so I don't know whether the same applies or whether it hardcodes subtitles by default. I'd imagine it wouldn't, but I guess anything's possible.

If you set default to no in MKVToonix VLC will not display the stream automatically.

it is an mkv that i am making into a blu ray with multiavchd. when i watch the original mkv the subtitles can be turned off but in the final blu ray they are hard coded and can't be removed, i think i need to do something in ffd show but i am not sure what

ok thanks guys i sussed it. go to vobsub config and hide subtitles in the misc tab:)
