Hi All,

Anyone try to make a safety copy of their Captain America dvd? I've always used DVD Decrypter/VOBBlanker/pgcEdit/ImgBurn but DVD Decrypter won't rip this DVD. It gives a strange error of css and some other weird code - not the typical Region 1 code, then stops due to errors.

Is the era of my beloved DVD Decrypter over???

Rock on!

Ok, I have a semi-fix: am trialing AnyDVD and augmented DVD Decrypter accordingly.

Now I can rip the DVD, however, DVD Decrypter shows that it's over 76 gigs in size (the five main VTS movie files of 1.048 gb each repeat in Decrypter 11 times).

The doom9 server won't allow me to upload either jpg or gif image version (says "this is not a valid image"; tho both gif & jpg versions are under 50kb).

New encryption has arrived, Folks!!!

It arrives all the time cause rightsholders are still dumb enough to invest in new copy protections. However, DVD Decrypter has been outdated for years. DVDfab Decrypter does the job for free.

I had the same problem a little while ago, the conclusion that I
came to was that maybe I had saved the BMP files as RGB32 and
that D9 did not like JPG etc with an Alpha channel. Dont know
if this is the actual reason, but it may be. (my files were in about
5 differing formats and created via 3 different programs including
MS office, so it would seem that it was something very basic
that was the problem).

Try an "independent" photo service, like imageshack

This is the first time that I've encountered an decoding problem in years. I've always had perfect rips/backups everytime with my old ripping tools and Verbatim DL's, so I've never needed to change how I create backups - until my Captain America DVD.

Thanks for the heads up on DVDFab Decrypter - I didn't know DVDFab released its Decrypter.

The actual movie within Captain America (as I suspected) is contained in VTS 5.x - and that's the VTS section I couldn't rip with my old rusty, trusty DVDDecrypter. DVDFab Decrypter decoded it, no problem!

Thank you again for your help - now I don't have to be paranoid about about my kids ruining my original DVD.

Glad to read that you solved your problem, however a screenshot of that weird message will still be nice .....

Here ya go (below). As you see, the VTS movie parts repeat themselves. VTS_5.x is the actual movie, not VTS_3.x and VTS_4.x as shown below. And the VTS's movie parts appear at least to DVD Decrypter to repeat up to VTS_14.x - for a total of what appears to be 76.8 gigs on a DVD-9 disc.

During ripping, DVD Decrypter shows each VTS series (VTS_3.x, VTS_4.x, etc up to VTS_14.x) as the movie - 12 times!. And, if you VLC the movie parts in VTS_3.x and VTS_4.x, they play the same parts of the movie. However, without VTS_5.x (the actual movie which DVD Decrypter won't rip), the entire movie will not play.

It's VERY, VERY strange!!!

I thought it should have been something more serious ;)

Double allocation is known for decades, just rip the "right" part with a dumb ripper that can decss (and, in case of bad cells, also skip them), however the right part you'll be able to find only with a real, hardware player. Probably there are also some other protections as well that might interfere, but nothing serious.

PS: that was the case of a double/triple allocation one could guess from the size you mentioned. The original message is still missing.

Double allocation means that various unrelated files point to the same physical region, a cooked copy will duplicate/triplicate/xplicate the size accordingly, while a dumb/raw copy will copy exactly the structure as it is.

I think DVDFabPasskey is easier to use than AnyDVD, when using with DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink.
Please see below Figure. This DVD is 58.8GB.

I know the DVD like you say about 2.5 years ago.
I requsted the feature to DVDFabPasskey, and realized in ver.7.0.1.5(beta).

Much obliged for the inservices. Frankly, I've never had an issue like this before and I've backed up a couple thousand movies and TV shows over the years.

AnyDVD was pretty much useless with Captain America. It would help me at least rip the false VTS_3.x, VTS_4.x, VTS_6.x, etc up to VTS_14.x. However, it would not touch the VTS_5.x tho - and that's when I knew that had to have been the movie.

Take care, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Hi! AnyDVD was pretty much useless with Captain America.Have you shared this information/problem with the folks at the Slysoft Forum (Publishers of AnyDVD)?

AnyDVD was pretty much useless with Captain America.

And you must use AnyDVDRipper.
The software is restricted with using AnyDVD in background.

This thread made me curious about something. I don't want to go off-topic, but can anyone remember/tell me what was the very first DVD that 'DVD Decrypter' was unable to read? It has been so long ago that I cannot recall.

I ask for a specific technical reason, it is something I want to look at.

AnyDVD is fine with this title...you just need to know how to rip properly.

@xenex

Actually, when first the "PSL2" function was added (in 2004 IIRC), and then the subsequent inclusion of DVD Decrypter as an integral part of "RipIt4Me", there were NO DVDs that it couldn't read.

Things changed for a while when, after the "RipIt4Me" folks actually incorporated "FixVTS" DIRECTLY into "RipIt4Me" and were shut down as a consequence...

Are you by any chance thinking of the "Resident Evil" series?

Setarip -

It was not the "Resident Evil" series I was looking for, but your helpful hint on the PSL2 function let me find (via Google) what I was looking for. Thanks. I didn't mean to go off-topic.

Ok, next problem: Thor.

DVDDecrypter didn't rip it. Last week, I d/l'ed DVDFab for its free Decrypter last week to backup my Captain America. However, the 30 day trial as stated didn't last 30 days. And the Decrypter won't work unless I purchase DVDFab.

Any other free rippers out there?

Thanks in advance,

DY

Scratch that. I uninstalled DVDFab and reinstalled it. The Decrypter is now working again.

Try DVDFab HD Decrypter.

Ok, Decrytper ripped both Thor and Captain America but not cleanly. On the ripped copy, it will play the Menu then the Age 13 Warning and it stops dead.

Since noone is updating the open source DVDDecrypter and DVDFab HD Decrypter didn't perform the rip accurately, that leaves me no option but to purchase software.

However, I don't want to spend money on a program that's not going to work.

Any ideas?

How about checking the DVDfab forums till a new beta comes out that handles Captain America (or get the Bluray which rips just fine)? Also, DVD Decrypter was never open source.

I was afraid you'd say that because X-Men First Class ripped just fine with the old DVD Decrypter. So between January 2011 to now Marvel has added new code.
