Lately when I go to doom9, 4 times out of 5 (usually certain times of the day, such as morning) I get a page of like 5 lines of random ascii code. No readable text whatesoever. What is up with this?

I use IE 5.5, no proxy, and I'll check what the IP resolves to next time it happens. Right now it's working and .org resolves to 212.43.217.28, and .net resolves to 216.148.213.149.

update to IE6 (much less security problems.. also get the latest security patches from ms), then go to the internet options, advanced, and make sure but use HTTP 1.1 and use HTTP 1.1 over proxy connections are checked.

I use a Mac at school and they have IE 5. I used to have no problem. Now I go on the forums at school and I have not problem. Whenever I try to go to http://www.doom9.org/ or http://www.doom9.net/ it tries to download the page and I get an error.
Do you know what I can do to fix this?

Also, unless you can tell me how to make IE6 not always ask whether or not I want to save a .exe (and other exts) to my disk (I always want to save to disk, so I hate it asking me every damn time), I will not update to IE6. I've had enough trouble with it in WinXP already to make me not want to upgrade.

I'm pretty sure these controls exist in older IE versions and other browsers, too.. but if tracert doesn't work I would assume ping doesn't work either and your garbage is due to the connection being cut. you can post here so that means your browser supports gzip compression which we're turning on progressively on all the servers so you must make sure that your browser is properly set up.. if your proxy (remember there are hidden ones) doesn't support gzip compression change your ISP.. but here again.. being able to visit the forum means you have no such problem and it's a simple connection problem.
and if you have problems with xp it's more likely due to a screwed setup because I've installed it on a lot of machines and zip problems.. and IE6 is definitely better security wise than its predecessors though that won't mean it's safe..

Well that option is not available in ns 4.77 and since i don't have root on this machine (at work) i can't upgrade it either. So now i'm forced to run opera instead which works. Netscape 6 isn't available for solaris 2.6 either and mozilla is way to slow and buggy sofar.
