Subtitles problems with DVDFab and Auto GK

I have a copy of a DVD made using DVD Decrypter and DVDFab 0.17.0. DVDFab copied the complete DVD into two DVDs. Now I want to make an avi-file from the DVDs.

I have problems with subtitles regarding the second DVD.

I’ve tried the following steps:

1. Copy DVD to hard drive
2. Use FixVTS 1.603 on the full DVD
3. Making a backup with DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15.
4. Use Auto GK 2.55 to make the avi-file.

DVD Shrink couldn’t find the DVD in “Re-author”, so I used “Full Disc“. The DVD was labeled “Unreferenced Material”.

In the end result the subtitles are out of sync with the audio and video. It seems to be an about four minutes delay in the beginning and that decreases during the film.

How can I make the subtitles sync with the audio and video?

Rerip again the original DVD into one DVD set, and use AutoGK on that set.

OK. Is there an alternative where I can use the two discs I already have, instead of starting with the original DVD?

You'll find it much simpler, quicker, and more certain to, as suggested, re-rip your original DVD as a single DVD.

BTW - Why and how did you initially rip your original, commercial DVD to span two discs rather than one?

Why? I don‘t know.

OK, I understand.

To start all over would be "cutting the Gordian knot" so to say. But I’m still curious how to solve the subtitles problem.

When I started this thread I had three ideas:

# 1: A program to undo DVDFab 0.17.0
I thought there could be a program to undo what DVDFab did. I’ve tested the merge function in DVDFab 8.1.2.5 and that didn’t work.

# 2: Another "fix-program"
WinDVD shows the subtitles correct, but Auto GK doesn’t understand them. I thought there could be a program that fixes the DVD so Auto GK "sees" what WinDVD "sees".

# 3: A subtitle timing program
I can rip the subtitles with SubRip from the DVD and I can make an avi-file without subtitles. I thought there must be a program that allows me to put the subtitles into the avi-file at the time that I choose.

Simply, rerip the DVD as one, as suggested twice.

For other "questions" I don't think anyone would tell you something more, unless a mod assesses the rule 6 compliance.

OK. I'm sad such suspicions has arisen, but I understand the need for precautions and I'm grateful someone explained the unwillingness to answer the question. I guess I'll await such an assessment.

DVDfab 0.x? You know, they are at 8.x now, right? Rip main movie only and AutoGK will do just fine.

The reason such suspicions have arisen is because there is no valid reason to do anything but re-rip the original DVD if you're still in posession of it. Your request and resistance to the advice offered raises the suspicion that you're not.

Because this version 0.17 was the latest completely free version AFAIK :)
